• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Hey it's Mat from Gibson Product Development - AMA

New to this forum, working my way back from today, saw your post about fingerboard conditioner and wondered if you could/would suggest a specific product, or probably to avoid complications, the qualities to seek in my own searching... Also, I have emailed customer.service@gibson.com and they seem busy(!). Could you suggest another approach, I have a question about a 2021 SG. And thank you for supporting the brand and the fans with your presence!

FYI... Prior in this thread Mat mentions Howard Feed-N-Wax.

Mat, I just tried to order a Made To Measure ‘54 Les Paul Standard in Seal Brown. Gibson came back and said they can’t do the color. I’ve seen you guys do a few before. Any chance you would be able to help with that?

Well it turns out, I am mistaken. I don't know which review or video I was reading/watching that said that the bridge was a locking bridge...it is NOT. It's a regular Nashville type T-O-M with bridge Allen-adjustable posts. So, in my best Emily Litella voice, "Nevermind." ;)
Ha!!! I figured out why I thought it was a locking bridge. I got that from this video / review @ 5:15 in. It turns out, you can't believe everything you see on the internet 😵‍💫 :)

If they say we can't, we can't. We probably do not have the paint on hand anymore (and we've switched vendors for all in recent years anyway). I would suggest trying again and requesting Dark Brown paint. Perhaps the issue is specificity to the color name? Either way, I'd prefer not to get involved for obvious reasons... :)

Matt -

Reference the recent Korina Explorer and V releases from Epiphone, will there be similar Korina Explorer and V releases from Gibson USA?

Would love to see them, including Lefty models!

Peter Frampton told me directly in person his real "Phenix" Les Paul weighs 6lbs and is, in fact, weight relieved. The weight of it was always it's magic, and as I pressed him on it, he reiterated this fact to me more than 10 times during our conversation.

This was during the 35th anniversary FCA tour in Chicago.
Since that was right around the time it was being restored by Custom Shop, perhaps he was misled about it? Spoke to a number of people here who worked on it...no recollection of it being chambered or that light weight. Again, in the early 50s it would have had a single piece mahogany body...would have had to be some strange custom order to have had a mahogany top placed on a routed-out back. But hell, it could happen I guess.

We can't get enough wood here stateside to regularly fulfill even the Custom Shop Korinas, that is the issue there. And the fact that working with Korina presents some challenges that we may not want to introduce at USA.

It started life as an Alnico and P90 then was sent to Gibson for the "humbucking pickups" as they became available. Who knows what Gibson did during that "upgrade". Regardless, my source is right from the Horse's Mouth.

Yeah I'm aware of that. Just thinking maybe this was communicated to Peter like the guitar was "routed" and he interpreted as Chambered. I am texting the horse's mouth now.

Interesting, thanks for all the contributions Matt. Are you saying it’s actually easier to manufacture korina guitars overseas due to the wood being more easily available there vs. the US? Just curious on the challenges, is it a CITES issue still?
