• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Another 1960 LP standard 0-8875 with headstock repair

As far the TRC covers go, you will note that the sibling to this guitar 0-8876 also sports a blank TRC, as well as every photo I have seen of 60s model has blank TRC...must be a thing, the "no LP" standard. This is the trend that I see from a silk screen "Les Paul model" as seen on the...

Another 1960 LP standard 0-8875 with headstock repair

i should add that repair procedure was always available online. And the original seller made sure everyone knew the story. "A couple of years later, the then owner emailed me asking me to take down the repair pictures from a forum I had posted them on. He was attempting to sell the guitar as...

Another 1960 LP standard 0-8875 with headstock repair

The original owner had this to say: Here's a story for you. Back in 2007 I accidentally destroyed a beautiful 1960 Les Paul/SG Standard at the airport. This was a really early example with a factory inked on serial number that is lower than some 1960 Bursts. The guitar had been fitted with heavy...

I have seen the photo before the original repair and the TRC was plain. I will see if I can find the old photos.

1960 Les Paul Standard sells fast

Brilliant! Now those pictures are indeed worth more a 1000 words each. Thanks for posting such a lovely guitar. The colour is intact and I love the imprint of the Sideways vibrato on the case pad.

1960 Les Paul Standard sells fast

Indeed I did. This description is much better as there were 3 Les Paul models with 2 having PAFS, (Although it could still be a Custom). I never thought SG described a body type as the first SG looked quite different from the later SG body type. Maybe you can post a picture of your 62...

1960 Les Paul Standard sells fast

Correct as you can see only 2 SG models were offered. The other solid bodies were Les Paul models including the LP junior, Custom and Standard. '][/URL]

1960 Les Paul Standard sells fast

A quick check of the October 15, 1962 price list shows only 2 SG models: the SG-Special at $222.50 and the SG-TV at 157.50. So yeah, I am pretty impressed that you sold a “mint” SG to a dealer for 30K. I am guessing it was the SG-Special. I am always learning new things on this forum.

Want to buy a vintage SG - which era has the most stable neck?

To get back on track, I have some videos from Joe B. The first one Joe playing a 1964 SG with newer vibrato with the plastic tip handle. This SG is popular because it has a thicker neck and is similar to the one Clapton use in the Cream. For comparison I include the same song this time on the...

Want to buy a vintage SG - which era has the most stable neck?

That's not "evidence", that's just one data point. Come back with 1,000 data points, and we'll call it evidence. Ah yes you misunderstand the nature of basic research. It is not me that trying to prove anything. I did not posit a theory of the dead spot. The person that posits the theory...
