Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
My post was more of a statement though. I agree that we haven't had a decent option since DMC.
However, 50's tailpieces weren't actually aluminum, but a type of cheap throwaway alloy consisting of aluminum among other metals.
Just a heads up for those into this sort of thing.
It’s a thickkkkk book. Mostly filled with famous historical stage guitars; which, as a die hard Hetfield fanboy, Xmas came early with this book.
In addition to the famous/well known touring guitars, there’re several pages covering his golden...
I re-read this thread and couldn't see any discussion specifically around case handle color.
Typically we're accustomed to seeing the stock blue color handle, under the brown paint; however some other color's, such as white were also used.
Was this just a random thing like double white PAF's...
I'd be super interested in knowing this as well.
Another thing that I can't recall ever reading about 9-1995 is with regards to the body (or at a minimum top) being refinished by Michael in addition to the new neck.
If you look at the photos of the guitar without the neck, (especially the last...
So, there’s a lot going on with it that’s just not right. There are also several other gorgeous guitars in that collection super legit. It’s just that a guitar giving off million dollar guitar vibes, will turn heads and generate discussion.

I’ll add that the other two explorers are just to die for. Honestly, what a treat to get this level of quality footage of those two old gals and their respective cases.
But yeah… you can even see Mark’s face acting super uncomfortable praising the 3rd...
Sorry. Some of you guys mistook my post for opinion.
I’ll try be more clear.
This overly shallow neck angle is wrong.
Chalking it up to “vintage” doesn’t fly.
Poorly assembled. Likely due to being poorly sanded/over sanded at final fitting or more likely, some extra glue built up under the...
In short, this is poor build quality control.
You could re-fret with larger fretwire, that may buy you a bit of clearance.
You could try modify the dogear, sanding the base which would require a new pickup (soapbar style) or clipping the ear mounts, and re-mounting the pup inside the cavity...
I researched this quite extensively after a recent Bigsby build with no tailpiece studs, and found this method on any Bigsby equipped guitar, as well as on 335's.
I have also seen on a darkback goldtop where the ground was more akin to how they did it on trapeze's.
It's why if you see PAF's...
