• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

London International Guitar Show ES Thinlines

If I'd pilfered Mike's ES photo database there would be twice as many rare ES guitars in the shot:ROFLMAO:

London International Guitar Show ES Thinlines

Great event last Sunday at Kempton Park. Many amazing Bursts on show which are featured in the vintage LPs forum. My collector friend Bob and I brought along our vintage ES thin lines, which will appear in David Plues and Vic DaPra's forthcoming ES Believers book. Had a great day - lots of...

    Gibson Crest

Thanks - interesting that some have fixed compensated RW bridges and others ToMs. From the numbers in online images I doubt that so many of these can have been aftermarket changes. Mine certainly matches the rest of the hardware. There does seem to have been some detail individuality about the...

    Gibson Crest

The Crest is definitely a 'minority sport' now and back in the day. Limited upper fret access, Johnny Smith pickups and a hollow body won't appeal to many. Especially if Crests are overpriced in similar ballparks to early 60s 330s. But as I have a 62 330 and golden era 335, 345, and 355s, it...

    Gibson Crest

I recently got this 1970 Crest in excellent condition. Its pretty uncommon - around 170 shipped in total 1969-72. Basically a heavily upscaled ES330 with book-matched rosewood veneers, gold hardware,16th fret neck/body join, multiple bindings, marquetry inlaid back centre seam, Johnny Smith...

    Gibson ES 345 players

I just remembered that Charlie Gelber has a '63 blonde 335 for sale so these blonde custom order ESs certainly were made, in very small numbers, in the early 60's.

    Gibson ES 345 players

Joe put up this vid of his new (I presume) '59 stop tail blonde 345 last month. A '63 could only have been a custom order. It would be great to have a link if there is one, or an idea of why its thought to be a '63. It does look like a short guard and the switch tip isn't amber, but the knobs...

    1961 Les Paul/SG Standard Photos!

StewMac appear not to have it in stock and I couldn't find one on Crazyparts website. I'd try Dan at Mojoaxe. Personally I wouldn't worry about single ring tuners on a good player grade 61. You can probably see that my refin 61 has single rings (actually a spare aged set I had got form...

    1961 Les Paul/SG Standard Photos!

Great advice - Dan has provided quite a few repro parts for me over the years and he really knows his stuff. The one on the right of the picture looks very similar to the original TRC on my 61 but Dan will know what's correct.

    1961 Les Paul/SG Standard Photos!

I'm pretty sure all 61s had the wider bevel TRC with the 'Les Paul' script. Here's mine - refin but with original TRC. Yours looks like a later narrow bevel without the script. A nice touch to find a repro if they're available.

A 'Les Paul' script TRC would be good - not sure if there are repros made?

    Gibson ES 345 players

The neck is on the thin side 0.81" 1st fret 0.89" 12th. But not quite as thin as my 355 from the same year, and nowhere near a crazy thin as my '61 ES175 (0.74" 1st fret!!). The PAFs are a double white and double black - just as we know, the operatives just grabbed whatever was to hand!! Its a...
