Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
I do recall when the 2017 Historics were announced, mention of the tops made to match the “Carmelita carve”. 2017 was an odd year in that Gibson didn’t show anything on their website and some of the 2017s were actually made in 2016. I believe the R7, R8 and R9 all got the 59 profile neck. But...
R4 w/humbuckers are so cool. I played one years ago and thought it was the best Les Paul I’d ever played. I didn’t have the cash at the time, so I didn’t buy it. But I still think about that guitar.
I do my own fret jobs and what you’re describing just seems schlocky. While it is common practice to have frets be a little over radiused to ensure the ends seat well, using precut/pre radiused frets doesn’t allow for this and the shop should have both fretwire lengths and a radius bending tool...
I think the simple design of Juniors/TV Models lend themselves to being resonant guitars…. nothing in between nut and wrap tailpiece bridge, small body cavity, simple plank body, one pickup. Even my 2018 Junior is super resonant. Love this thing…
First off - good for you in trying to learn how to set up your own guitar. It takes experience, but you learn by trying and the only way to really get a set up that’s *just right* for you, is to do it yourself. Many people are afraid to try to set up their own guitar and bestow an almost...
Southern Jumbo is structurally the same as a J45, just with more bling. In addition to the fret markers and neck binding, the body binding is also cosmetically a little fancier.
Since it didn’t sound like you were getting rid of your small bodied Martins, I think you’d enjoy having a J45 as...
Unless you’re a bluegrasser, get a J-45. Either 50s, 60s or Standard, or a Southern Jumbo, depending on your neck, aesthetic and budget preferences. I played a Martin 00018 and an OM28V pretty much exclusively for years. While I still love my small bodied Martins, the deep, dry, thumpy Gibson...
It’s not that overpriced. In today’s market, any decent 70s Deluxe is going to be listed at over $2,000. Lots of great deals can be had if you’re open to considering a guitar with a good headstock repair. It just needs to be done well and some breaks are worse than others. Some people won’t...
I just got a Marshall after playing a Fender Deluxe Reverb for 26 years. I love the Fender cleans, but nothing goes chunka chunka chunka like a Marshall.
I just got this amp and have been playing it for the past few days. With a R8 and the amp set as follows, I’m getting a VERY full sound out of the amp with the stock 10” speaker and it sounds just as big as my Fender ‘65 DRRI with a 12”. I find no need to swap out the speaker or connect to a...
