• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Show some love for The Heritage Series Standard 80's

WOW!!! One day off my birthday, which is the 5th of May. I will try to find more pics. It actually had a nice flame top which does not show in the photo that I provided. That is an amazing piece of information, thank you for sharing it!

Show some love for The Heritage Series Standard 80's

I bought a new LP Heritage Standard 80 back in the early 80s from a music shop in Newcastle upon Tyne called Windows. I am certain that the 4-digit number was 2150. Back in the 80s, you had to buy a roll of film for a camera and then have it developed which was expensive when you were broke, so...

Unclowning the burst - sunbathed beauty

I think the Fender from the past and the Katana now would both sound superb with your old Les Paul. I know what you mean about the "a lot lighter" as I myself just use a Fractal Audio thing into 2 studio monitors in the house. Very light, but with tonnes of cool tones. I'm currently enjoying a...

That is a cool looking guitar and a cool looking t-shirt. What is your amplifier of choice for a nice Les Paul tone?

Unclowning the burst - sunbathed beauty

Your pic of Percy Street brings back good memories. Newcastle was a fantastic place back in those days. The guitarist that I mentioned who played a cherry sunburst custom was a good 6 footer. I think. He had a good stage presence. Out of interest do you have any pics of your guitar, I'd love to...

Unclowning the burst - sunbathed beauty

I think I can remember Jeavons. Was it just along from the Handyside Arcade? I remember a shop more or less opposite (pre fab shops) that sold things like Tokai guitars and always had (what I would consider lovely guitars now)lots of Love Rocks/reborns (that I did not like back then, cos they...

    Brian Robertson Thin Lizzy

This is a great photo of Robbo's old Les Paul. As mentioned, I believe the story was of it having been made as a gift for Mary Ford from Les Paul. A piece of history!

Unclowning the burst - sunbathed beauty

I know this is an old post, but I spotted that you mentioned working in a guitar store for 13 years. Was the store in Newcastle? One of my fave shops way back in time was Rock City. The shop always seemed to have a load of great second gear in it, especially Les Pauls. Thinking about it, I loved...

    Gary Moore.

Funnily enough, when I saw Gary Moore at a show in Newcastle (mentioned on this thread) he played his Junior for almost all of the show. My memory is a bit hazy with the detail but I think he also played a white "strat" guitar. Probably a Charvel or similar. The sound was still horrible. lol.

    Brian Robertson Thin Lizzy

Another Robbo tale, not directly linked to me as such but still of interest (in that I would have enjoyed being there) was when I took my stepson to a mortgage advisor for advice on buying a house. I have not got a clue how the talk got into guitars and Thin Lizzy, but Mike (I think?) was a HUGE...

    Brian Robertson Thin Lizzy

On the subject of Brian Robertson... Years ago, an ex-girlfriend of mine turned up at my house with her new husband. Or possibly boyfriend at the time. Anyway, I was introduced and as the conversation went on, he mentioned that he played bass in a band. That's cool I would have thought. He told...

    Brian Robertson Thin Lizzy

I've seen a few comments on Robbo's Les Pauls here so thought I would add something that I have been reading this morning. Quote... "Robbo's got 5 Les Pauls at the time of writing, a 53 Standard, a 62 Black model (Custom), a 3 pup SG shaped Les Paul custom (60), a 65 Deluxe, and a 70 Standard...

    Gary Moore.

If you are a Gary Moore fan or potential fan and maybe not familiar with all of his stuff (or a great deal of it), check out this link. I don't like all of his albums but when he is on form he is a monster of a guitarist. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYDccdJz3j2KVsM8NMebIMw/playlists

    Gary Moore.

If I was a stick of rock and you cut me in half, the rock would probably say Gary Moore (or Thin Lizzy). So you can say that I am a fan! I have been lucky enough to have seen him on several occasions but the stand out one (for being bad) was a show at "The Mayfair" club in Newcastle where he...
