Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Hahaha! Well, then this thread had some sort of value! Great band name. Sounds like a band you’d see play in a restaurant in Sedona.
I’m still trying to determine what pickups these might be. Has anyone encountered early 57 Classics with a plastic sleeve between the lead braid, and the black...
Around a year ago, I found a 2003 Gibson Les Paul Custom 1968 Reissue for sale, and it was sold as “all original” and unmodified. I owned an Ebony 68RI already, but this listing featured an Ebony 68RI with the cool, factory-aged Nickel hardware, so I decided to pick it up because I love the...
Thanks for your response Mat! So, just to confirm, since 2011, the 1950s Historic Custom Reissues do NOT have a “top” at all, the body and top are one, single slab of Mahogany?
Thank you for clarifying the spec dates as well! If there was a change to the construction methods of the 50s Custom...
Thanks for your input! Another good spot to inspect if you are able to view it is to take a look where the seam line where the top meets the body. This is most visible in the pickup routes. Sometimes you can see a visible difference between the woodgrain on the top and the woodgrain on the body...
Hi djcmusician!
Thanks for posting your pics! Your B7 looks amazing, and I’m sure those Antiquirked sound great in it! Personally I’ve always been partial to a good Alnico II humbucker!
If it’s possible, I’d recommend getting a good picture of the wire route, as it appears in the neck pickup...
Good to hear it man! I’m single, but my brother’s wife started buying him Les Pauls each time she became pregnant. They’re now expecting their fifth!
I have heard great things about the resonance of the Jr.s. I own a few explorers that are also super lively, but when you find a Custom that is...
That’s amazing on both counts! Congrats!
Thad era of Reissues (1998 - 2096-ish) made some of the greatest guitars during that time. Sure, the tuners may not be vintage-correct, and sure, Gibson may have used some wild colors during this run, but I’ve shears found the feel and resonance of...
I agree. This is what I have observed in multiple 57RIs as well. It not only makes the most sense, but from a business standpoint, it would be far more feasible to have all carved top Les Pauls constructed with the same “standardized” method of construction: a carved top glued to a Mahogany...
I agree. Based on the verbiage on Gibson’s website today, it doesn’t leave much to the imagination. I’ve highlighted the sections that address the body below…
Based on these descriptions, it seems to describe a completely solid log of mahogany that is cut, carved, and worked into a 57...
Hi Mat!
I have a question that seems to be debated really often, and was looking for sone clarification.
In regards to the 1957 reissues, can you clarify whether these guitars are a separate mahogany top joined to a mahogany body?
It seems that a lot of the confusion comes from the Gibson...
FretDoctor. Not cheap, but it’s worth it. Before FD, I used bore oil and it was fantastic as well.
I live in one of the most arid locations in the world, and I’ve never had an issue with wood swelling, splitting, or fret sprout, but in meticulous with maintenance.
Just avoid anything that...
Hi Aaron!
Welcome to the forum!
It sounds like you might have resolved this issue already, but as the owner of a few 68RIs, I figured I would try to help!
The 68RIs normally come with a stock ABR-1 bridge, which appears to be the same style you included in your link above.
Gibson USA and...
People are careless.
On my lesser loved guitars, I don’t mind much.
On my more preferred, if I like someone enough to let them play I guitar I care about, I also don’t want to get mad at them when the accidentally screw it up.
Best to save the friendship and tell them ”no”….or even better...
Weight seems pretty normally. Maybe a little light, since these still have the 9 hole weight relief.
I bet your bridge would stop leaning if you raised the tailpiece to the point where the strings stop “pushing” on the bridge.
If you MUST deck the tailpiece, top wrapping may be a good solution...
