Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Another possible source of confusion is that there was/is a recent 335 color called "60's Cherry" which did not imply that the guitar is 60's style, just the color.
I have seen 1 or 2 other cherry burst 335s over the years (listings, not in person) and I believe they were also from 1984.
I'm don't think I have any other pics (I can check later but they would not be on this computer) but if there is something specific you want to see I would be glad to take...
I have only had the 58ri for about a week and have had the 84 for almost 40 years so it is tough to do a fair comparison now.
However my Initial impressions:
Feel wise, the 58ri is lighter (I think low 8lbs vs high 8lbs) and I prefer the size and shape of the neck of the 58ri. I feel like I...
Lots of beautiful guitars in this thread! I have always liked the way 335s sound and hang when playing. I have had a few come and go over the years.
Right now I have the 2 below. The cherry burst is an 84 that I got in 85. The blonde is a 2016 58RI. Neither is going anywhere anytime soon.
Another way to go is, in a single listing, offer individual prices on each and then a package price for all 3.
You could get lucky and sell 3 at once, but you are covered just in case you don't.
Another issue that arises with mdubya's 3 Firebird picture is, if we are talking about the inherent sound of a Firebird independent of the pickups, then the Reverse and Non-Reverse are very different guitars.
I have had a few Norlin era Gibsons and still have 2 - an 84 ES-335 that I bought in 85, and a 71-72 goldtop LP reissue that I bought from someone on this forum many, many moons ago.
Both really good sounding solid players. Contrary to the accounts of many, this goldtop is not heavy - less than...
A friend of mine told me he has a late 40's or early 50's Gibson L5 that belonged to his grandfather. I had been in the old case that was 'well ventilated'. Recently he put it in a new case. Then he sent me the following question/email:
"It had brand new strings put on, and it’s been sitting...
I was talking to a friend yesterday that uses several different tunings when he plays. He said he would like to have his guitar retune itself.
I told him that I remember a while back there was a thread or two here about a device that is built into the guitar that will tune the guitar for...
I have an early 68 338 and an 84 335 dot reissue. Tonewise, they have very little in common. A friend says this largely due to the fact that the 68 has a mahogony centerblock and the 84 has a maple centerblock. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, which years have maple centerblocks...
