• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

    The Gibson effect..

I am 53 and have only played Gibson guitars.,.Ok, OK, OK…I did buy a Fender Strat once, but it couldnt make a dent in my Gibson wall, and was soon sold. My Grandmother played a Gibson L-47 in the late 40’s in her singing duo with her Sister. She was pill popping, hard drinking Mama from...

Surprise first purchase of 2024 is phenomenal

It definitely did. It brought the total tone to a very balanced mid range. Before it was super bright to the point that I had to bring down the tone to 5. And that was on the neck pickup. I posted about the tone in another thread. I guess I should add that another top 2024 moment was having...

Surprise first purchase of 2024 is phenomenal

So in early January, I was in GC in Sacramento, and saw all the way in the corner of the used section, a Lp Studio in Darkburst hanging there. It was dusty, filthy, and unloved, but I was intrigued because it had binding. I searched Reverb real quick, and yes, 2018 Studios had binding. So for...

    A wonderful discovery

After posting, I did some research and it seems many Custom Shop models (R8, R9, ‘Black Beauties) use nylon nuts. I’m just really thrilled with how good this bargain new/used Studio sounds.

    A wonderful discovery

I have never had one. All the Gibsons I have since 2016 have had the tektoid nut ( I think my newer ones are Tusq/Newbone)

    A wonderful discovery

I have 4 LP’s, and 4 SG’s and all of them have the tektoid/newbone nut (or whatever Gibson uses) on all of them. I found a 2018 Darkburst Studio (with neck binding) that was unplayed for sale at the local GC for $900. I bought immediately and went home with my new find. At first I was...

Purchases I regret and get angry when I think about them

Man….the pickups. When I realized a proper wiring harness with proper caps is 80% of good sound, I saved myself from replacing yet another set of 490’s with BB’s. Many of us can look at your list and realize we are in the same club….

    FINALLY…My first “score”

So I was at GC yesterday pocking up strings. I took a look over at the used section and saw a really nice Tobacco Burst LP studio. But it was weird, as it had binding. Price was $849. I had them take it down, and upon inspecting, I realized this guitar had never been played (even though it wS...

Bridges affecting tone - Your thoughts.

I few posts ago, I brought up how I replaced 3 of my Gibsons that have wrapped tail bridges with Music City’s “Savy” bridge replacement. I did this because of the bridge leaning forward as I tried to intonate with the Gibson stock lightening bar bridge. This bridge cured the problem, but an...

    Miracle bridge!!!! Totally transforming.

Hi all- While I’m mostly an SG player, I do have a LP Special TV Yellow which I love. My LP Special, SG Special, AND SG Junior all have a similar problem. The lightening bar tail piece. The minute I start moving the bridges back to intonate, they all begin to lean forward because the bridges...
