Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!
Yeah I wasn't clear as pretty new here. It is obviously a Standard 58 Reissue. But I keep incorrectly referring to it as a custom as it is from the custom shop folks, is it not? Thanks anyway
Just to update the thread, I pulled the trigger on an absolute mint 2017 R8 Les Paul. I am blown away by everything about the guitar. I thought PRS had good build quality buy those guys in the custom shop really know what they are doing, I will never sell this one. Amazing.
Thanks Drayve85, but I am trying to find the differences (if any) between an2016 R8 and a 2020 R8. I am finding it difficult to determine exact specs of the 2016 model to compare.
The Pups are boutique hand wound PAFs, so certainly on par with the custombuckers.
I have slept on it and I think I will go for the used one. I am less and less bothered about it not being completely stock the more I have researched this.
I can't seem to easily determine the difference between...
Hahah. I have played the guitar and it is good. The original pickups have been sold. But I am being edited that this might not matter that much. The music store is selling new and it is a good deal, but the private one is genuine, just new pickups.
I am still leaning toward the 2016 as I can...
Not at all ) Apologies I am new to all this and still learning. Thanks for setting me straight, it a learning curve for me.
All that aside, does it seem a used one for a $1000 less is the way forward...? Then I cam start listing after a proper custom ;)
Really? Why does an R8 bother people. I am probably gonna go for the used, it is $1000 cheaper and is local so can play it and looks like a good one.
Just chatting about it has pushed me in that direction. New is great but the used one could be the way forward.
So I am still confused, nice...
That is really good advice, I am certainly not buying it to be a case queen and hoping it doubles in value.
I am happy if in a few years I want to change to something else it hasn't halved in value. So I am slanting toward the used. As you say there are thousands of them.
If I ever have the...
Limiting myself to those because in the UK, they are very expensive and these are both very good prices. It is also the finish and model I was after. I don't see the value in another 1000 for a 59 Reissue, they are so similar (to me).
But back to my original question, worth the extra 600 or so...
