I've been trying to find more information on these for quite some time, but there's nothing to be found. Does anyone here know anything? I'm thinking that they were 9-42 gauge, probably used in the late '70s/early '80s, before he went to 8-40, then 7-38?
I can't speak to the quality or concerns with the Obsidian, but I haven't ever heard anything negative. That said, I do have Emerson harnesses in several of my Les Pauls, and they are great!
Every guitar is different. I've always had positive results, but sometimes it is very subtle, I admit. However, most often, it's night and day in a very good way. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters!

It's a Gibson Pearly Gates that was hollowed out by John Bolin. He also changed the headstock to say "Gibbons Lucky Mojo model". Elwood said at one point that it has a Cream T in the bridge, but later stated that it's a real PAF.
My tech said that the frets on mine were a total mess as well. But he got it playing wonderfully, and I use eights! I have no doubt that you'll be very pleased. It's just a shame that this much work needs to be done to make them playable.
