• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

What exactly did I buy here? Classic? Plus? Premium Plus?

My son has a 2001 Classic that has an ABR so it goes through at least part of 2001. It's a nice guitar but too snotty for my taste. I offered to change out the inlays but he says he can live with them.
Your son is very wise to not want to change the inlays .

I think the ABR-1 bridge lasted until 2004 on the Classics.

Love the snot green markers man.☝️ Very classy I might say!
Plain tops are hard to come by these days when you get a Paul. All stock except for the reflector knobs I had replaced there after showed above post # 22.

Does it have the wide binding in the cutaway like the other classic pictured... or the narrow binding? I believe Gibson went back to the narrow binding in 02.

Yes the earlier did have the slim binding and after the millennium or so it went thick. Hmmm? not so sure now if its the opposite?

I wanted to give you all an update on my purchase. Turns out it was indeed a 93' and it's a plus top. I had my tech go through it and set it up and he took photos of the both pickup cavities and sure enough in stamped ink beneath the bridge pickup it states it's a "Classic Plus".

After giving it to him for a complete set up, I have to say this thing is a MONSTER player. I can't believe my luck. The SD Antiquities are exactly what I have been looking for in a Les Paul in a long, long time. I own a 10 lb. 1974' Custom with a Pearly Gates in the bridge and a WCR Darkburst in the neck. I also refretted it with EVO tall/narrow frets and it plays fantastic. I've had it for about 35 years and will always be my number 1 because I know this guitar like the back of my own hand....BUT....this Classic is right up there! The Antiquities and the fact it was refretted as well with jumbos is just icing on the cake. My tech balanced the pickups, set the truss rod, adjusted the bridge and filed my nut. He's a jaded kind of guy that has seen it all and even he said "this is a cool guitar" and that meant a lot to me. It plays like the Les Paul of my dreams. Tonally, it's Jimmy Page circa 73' and that is alright by me. It's a bit different than my 74' in that the neck profile is thinner and the Antiquities are more low output than I am used to but I am having the time of my life with this guitar. I love my 74' chunky neck but damn, it didn't take me long to fall deeply in love with the thin one too. Just different. A fella can love two gals at once, right?
