• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I question about strings. I just picked up my Les Paul Classic. Haven’t played as yet. Just at the dealer to check it out. There is a lot of squeaking when moving about the fretboard playing chords. Does anyone play flat wound strings on their LP? I have flat wounds on my Ibanez arch top hollow body. No noise and silky smooth to the touch. Would like the same thing on the LP but still want to be able to getting the grit when I want it. Any thoughts?

I'd say to play it for a while as is, see about getting used to those strings as is.
TBH I've never had an issue with string squeak coming through when playing electric and only rarely when playing acoustic but I do find it happens more so on new strings rather than broken in. It also may take adjusting your touch just a bit when sliding between chords.

I avoided flat wounds for years but since I play a Ric from time to time I found that these flat wounds give a real even tone on that guitar. Tried the same set on my R9 and wouldn't go back now.

Try Pyramid Strings! Made in Germany. They were the strings of the "British Invasion" back in the early Sixties. Selmer sold them under the Selmer name and Hofner sold them under the Hofner banner.. Every Hofner Bass made has had Pyramid's on it as Stock from the factory.

Thomastik Infeld Blues Sliders are fantastic. The wound strings are wound with silk. Super smooth to the touch.

I just eat a Whataburger before playing and the grease just does it.

When I start winding up like Malmsteen I use
peanut butter to slow me down to Clapton speed.
I just came from Whataburger-land.. Corpus Christi, Tx. That’s where they started! But.., I don’t eat beef anymore. I quit that the beginning of 2013! Feel so much better. There’s more protein in plants than there is in meat..

Damn hippies... (Just kidding Don!) :giggle:

I've been using Pyramid round cores on all of my guitars.

Strings are cheap. Buy a set and try 'em.
If you like 'em, hurrah. If you don't, put the old set, better still, a new set, back on.
