I’m trying to find out if a 1987 Gibson Les Paul standard had a Kahler tremolo option. Thanks. Here is one I found but I’m not sure if it’s stock or not and I wanted to be stock I looked around a lot it looks like it is but I’m not totally sure

Yes, it was an available option. It is easy to install a stop tail piece and Nashville bridge as the screw holes are in the proper location. There is a large area under the Kahler that is routed out and will be visible if the vibrato is taken off.

thanks guys, well this guitar looks to be factory, the guy took off the nut and could see where the truss rod cover had different holes. so i wonder if the did that at factory if someone wanted the option. I mean its a really good job on the routing. i just like stock, hope it is, cause i just bought it LOL.

Does the tremolo unit say Kahler on it or Gibson? Hard to tell from the pics. Looks to have the large, chrome fine tuners. Most Gibsons had the black fine tuners.

Most likely not factory., along with the graphite nut and most of the other parts.

I don't know about 1987, but I know some earlier '80s units were Gibson branded Kahlers.

I have a 1984 Les Paul Studio I bought used about 25+ years ago with a factory installer Kahler tremolo system. Honestly the sound is horrible and string action is way to low for my taste.
