• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Amps you sold but should have kept

Yup, I’ve regretted a few, but none more than the 60’s Vox AC30 I sold in 1975......Even though I replaced it with a cool 50w Marshall and matching 8x10 cab. I really liked the sound of the Vox better.......
Funny enough I replaced an AC30 with a similar Marshall setup around 68. Head was 100w though

Sound City Concord. Slider controls, loud, piercing tone. Nice combo, gave it away.

Fender drip edge Dual Showman with 2 2-15 JBL cabs with placards.

Bought it from a bass player.

When attached to my 69 Custom or my 63 Strat I could shatter windows a block away...

All sold to get a wedding ring for the Princessa...so no regrets.

Only two, and even then the logic is still sound, and both volume related.

- JMI 30/6...reworked with Top Boost. THE BEST AC30 tones I, and the amp tech that did the work, have ever heard. I have dibs on it should the current owner tire of its back breaking weight and unusable volume.
- Sampson era Matchless Brave...also punishingly loud, but amazing.

Luckily, I've learnt my lesson and kept actually the cream...'73 Princeton, 65Amps Tupelo (my number 1) and an amazing Divided by13 BTR23 (my number 1-A...good for louder gigs).

Sold one of the last SLO 100s Mike made in CA when you had to order them directly, no dealers at that time. No mods were available, I asked for cream tolex. Moved on from 1980s, only liked playing lead channel with gain low, MV open...a really loud amp for most local bars. Effects loop kinda sucked, so I sold it on TGP.

I don't miss it, but my good buddy was devastated...he always loved it and wanted it. I knew he liked it, but he liked all guitars and amps and I didn't feel comfortable asking him to pay me the $s I got for it.

He reminds me of it regularly as the original SLOs with proper transformers and Mike's handiwork have gotten scarce and even more expensive and he knew mine was the real deal in minty condition. Wish I had not sold it so he could have bought it.

The only one I really regret selling was my first amp - a 1956 narrow panel tweed deluxe. ( I bought it in the late 70s)
It was the 80s, and I was young and stupid! 🙃

A Gibson GA-55RVT Ranger (the Kalamazoo Super) I sold in 1978.

It had a wonderful sound when wound out and jumpered. But frankly, its strength was also its weakness: full-band concert situations was all it could do.

My 1951 Fender Deluxe... it was a ferocious little monster cranked up.

I had one of the first run lead 12 Marshall Microstacks in white. It was obnoxiously loud! Solid state head but it sounded alright at the time. I loaned it to a buddy of mine to play a set at our high school. We took his black Microstack and did a checkerboard pattern with ‘em. Sold it a few years after that. They go for about a grand these days.

Marshall 2553 head with matching 1966a cab. Both in black as they were called the Custom Tube Series the year after the 1987 Jubilee year. Mine was a 1988.

I wish I still had that amp.

Sold my Marshall JMP 2203 that I used all through the 80's and always regretted it.

Bought another one a few years ago. :)

Let’s see. There’s the ‘91 American Fender deluxe strat w/early Texas specials. I know it’s guitar, but it’s DEFINITELY a regret. Then the Marshall JCM 800 2210 with the brown fabric face. And ultimately the original vintage Magnatone 470? The one with two 12” alnico as and the awesome vibrato. I traded it in for a $400 Hartke 4x12 cab, because I didn’t have a cab for the jcm 800. I’m actually kicking myself in the a$$ as I type!
