• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Morning lads. Another lazy day here. Hovering between cloudy/sunny and slightly warm/coolish. When it warms up a bit I see a rip on the motorcycling happening.

At my ripe age, I bought my first ever gaming console (PS4) so I could play COD with some of my buddies online. However, I also bought a driving game (Gran Turismo) and am liking that one a lot. Preparing for the downtime during my imminent chemo...going to be stretches of a few days every month where I expect to be couch locked. yeah, that’s my excuse!

I also can see every job in my house and yard that needs to be done and there’s nothing that hurts on me, its just ho hum! Let me play the guitar.

Woke up late and had my usual 3 full mugs of coffee.

Later I took my black strat to a friend's for a complete setup after a string gauge change I had done a couple of weeks ago. We spent most of the day doing the major and minor tweaks while we drank Budweisers, all respecting the mandatory distancing and wearing masks but it was fun enough. He's a highly skilled tech and sets up a guitar milimetrically. I call his work perfection.

I am watching TFF die slowly, despite of everyone's wishes and efforts. The way I see it, the certificate issue is taking too long to be sorted out and the users who came here are afraid to come back, securitywise. The ones who didn't feel like coming to the LPF on the other hand don't post much and prefer to sit back and wait. That pretty much equals to leave it to die. To each his own. TFF ain't dying because of the lack of a certificate, it's dying because it doesn't get the attention it needs to keep on going, from its users, although we all love it.

Me, by now I think it's a lost cause. I'll probably stay in the LPF and see if the guys keep on meeting here. If not, I'll just keep in touch with the ones who are on Facebook. As George Harrison said, all things must pass, I guess.

It's me birthday. I woke early, smoked a joint, and played my fretless Jazz Bass--you're welcome neighbors.

I wrote a silly (hopefully, funny) poem for my dearly departed Mom for Mummy's Day.

I've been digging the remastered box set of The Who Sell Out. What a great and underappreciated album. Man o man.

Have a great day, and if your mother is still living and she's not an evil witch, tell her you love her today.

Happy Birthday, Willie!

Not much happening here in the deep South, either.

Mother's day went well and I'm looking forward to receiving my first Covid shot.

hey, y'all. I can see why folks might not want to go to TFF. The last few days, I've reported at least 2 spam bots per day. Nobody's posting over there. Tons of people viewing but are they flesh and blood humans or bots? When did the cert expire? March 10 ? I do hate to see the site go but oh, well.

Short summary. We moved on the 4th instead of the 5th. Not all our stuff was packed so we just had the movers take what was ready. My brother had a ton of fires to put out at work so I basically minded the entire move. We're still living out of cardboard boxes but there are fewer of them now. A new guitar that I wasn't expecting until August showed up on Saturday and I didn't even get to unpack it until after midnight. Epiphone signature model, a single P-90 Les Paul Custom gold top. I'll get pictures eventually.

A pair of robins showed up right after we moved in last week and built a nest on our flower box window. We witnessed a hostile takeover attempt by an intruder robin, there was much rolling and tumbling on the ground. The home team prevailed. Today my brother saw the robin kick the ass of a much larger blue jay. Robins be feisty buggers, they are.

I foolishly entertained the notion that I could move in on the 4th and then turn around and get the storage units emptied by tomorrow the 13th. I have been admonished by the reality of numerous piles of yet to be unpacked corrugated boxes.

Robins can be vicious. We were terrorized by one Robin who kept attacking its reflection in our windows. This went on for over a month. We taped newspaper over the glass - it ripped the paper off to get at the "other" bird. We put up a plastic owl to scare it away. It roosted on it to rest between attacks.

Many public buildings put hawk silhouettes in their windows. Just a paste-on shadow in the shape of a hawk. Seems to work.

Some of the guys won't go back there as long as there is this security issue, and others make a point of not migrating here but won't post there either, preferring to sit back and watch it 'die with dignity', whatever that means regarding a guitar forum. Me, I'm not posting there anymore. Why start a thread in a forum if you know you'll hardly get any replies? There are like 3 or 4 users left.

I'm in touch with most of you on Facebook, y'all know how to find me there. As long as I don't lose touch with my friends, it's all right. I think we all did what was within our reach to keep the place or to move as a whole band. Didn't happen. Whatever.

Sadly, I agree with you, Sérgio. I'm removing my bookmark for TFF, as it's just become a poor magnet for spammers, and LPF doesn't seem to want to do anything about it. I'm also removing my bookmark for LPF because 1) I find I've been spending too much time on forums, and 2) LPF doesn't have enough content on a daily basis to interest me.

Maybe I'll keep the bookmark, but I'm pulling back. I already left Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I participate in some other forums, but life is short and I need to get out more.

I am kind of the same way. TFF was becoming my main daily forum. I don't get enough out of LPF, either. I never did any other social media platform. Lately I had been playing more and spending less time online. I, too, wish to get out more. Now that I'm in a house again, I'm going to be very busy for a long time. I'm looking forward to live music returning and getting together with friends and playing. I'll keep the LPF bookmark but I'm going to delete the TFF bookmark (again).

As for playing more and being less busy with forums, same here.

Band being on stand by due to the pandemic, I have been busy studying lots of music theory and learning as much of the Blues and Grateful Dead stuff as I can. I’m spending more time with my guitars, it’ll be even more fun when me and the guys hit the road again to play gigs. Facebook groups about Dead music (the ones dedicated to the music, not the fan groups) are fun and instructive, nevertheless.

I guess you’ll not be seeing much of me here or down TFF either, anymore.

Like I said, y’all know how to find me if needed...

Good news on the move Dan. Those boxes will sort themselves out eventually. So, in the meantime, let’s see some pics of the new Les Paul!

My storage unit is rapidly emptying. So far I seem to have gotten all the amps, speakers and stereo equipment out and into the house. Now is all the smaller stuff and a bunch of non guitar things (power tools, boots, winter clothing etc.) And one last large thing, my RTA studio desk, as yet unassembled and out of its original shipping box. It was the only way I could move the 245 pound mass by myself. I'll move that last to ensure I have all the parts in one shipment. My goal is to have my storage unit empty by Monday morning and turn in the key and hopefully get a prorated refund on the rental. Then I hope to have the stuff from the old family home into our garage by the end of the week, preferably by Friday before the facility office closes.

Beautiful summer like Sunday here. But, alas, I won’t be able to enjoy it like I normally would. Got my second Pfizer dose last Wednesday and it didn’t go as well as the first. The first shot I had about 24 hour of tenderness and then done. The second one, no reaction for the first 24 hours, then about 8 hours of flu like symptoms followed by extreme swelling of my left armpit lymph node. That’s been hard as a rock, baseball sized and painful for 72 hours straight right now. The whole shoulder is involved. Weird. It’s got to be related to my existing lymphoma (where my armpit lymph nodes are already swollen...but painless). Gonna call the doc tomorrow am. Not much I can do but rest and use the heat pad. Sleeping had been a challenge - haven’t had a proper sleep since Thursday night.
