• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I don't know any guitar players that do music for living that can afford to pay over 6000 $ (or would...) for a Gibson Custom guitar. Musicians buying those expensive Custom Shop Les Pauls must have a "good regular" job beside playing music, or selling their "not exciting anymore" Gibson guitars to be able to afford those expensive new "superior" ones. Or, if you're a "rich people", you may want to buy one of these !

This Mat Koehler should take care of his "rich" customers not badwording about them !

If I was a Gibson executive, this morning, Mat Koehler's desk would be empty... Bye Bye blackbird ! (no shaking hands)
My 2 cents !

All I'll say is, I was very offended by Mat's statement on Collectors Choice models. At the time, Gibson contacted me and inquired as to whether they could do a CC run on my guitar. I was, of course, honored and excited for this to happen. Edwin Wilson traveled to my home and took extensive measurements, listened to the guitar, and took extensive photographs. He sent the prototype to me several times until they got the burst color in the right ballpark. True, this particular 1959 Burst is not a big "flame meister" by any means, but it has beautiful color and tone. The CC#6 run sold out very quickly. I was able to keep the finished prototype. It's the dark burst. Is that a boring, un-special Burst? It's special to me, and to many people who have seen it and played it. I've also received notes from people who purchased CC#6 models, and they were all excited to own one. Okay, so the Collector's Choice series has run its course - so be it. Why diss the people who offered up their guitars for replication? I don't get it.
Mike, I'm sorry and understanding if you or any other CC collaborator was offended by that quote -- it was very much taken out of context because there was a whole lead-up explaining that we've done pretty much all the cool bursts that we could do -- yours included. I loved the CC program, but it was clearly getting stale and we were running out of great stories...the un-special bursts I mention were merely recent acquisitions by brand-new collectors...and to me that's not cool or Rock & Roll at all. But most importantly the sales and sell-through numbers were waning for the CC program, which meant we needed a change in direction. Murphy Lab gave us that opportunity -- make ALL the guitars have the aging, the broken-in feel and a truly unique look. Nothing to limit development timelines like contract negotiations. No slow roll-out and endless anticipation for individual models. We were able to do everything we wanted with one move.

Anyway I hope that gives you a little more insight into my quote...they definitely played it up for publication as you said. I was not happy with the quotes and context used in that article myself, and I expected after reading that I may have offended some. Again, I apologize regardless. What I meant is we had a GREAT run with CC, but we were grasping at straws at a certain point trying to find more collaborators and compelling stories. It was at that point that we resolved to end the program -- meaning that the "un-special" guitars were never made and the CC program to that point was, and will continue to be, very special.

Yeah that guys opinion about the CC line kind of just brushed aside CC owners. Sure is easy for him to dream up something, type it out then go home whistling a happy tune. Hey make way for the latest and greatist. All that crap that you bought before is just crap. Toss it and buy one of these.

According to him, serious CC owners change out all the parts of a CC guitar. Huh? Say again? Yeah right. BTW, who exactly is a serious CC owner?

Whatever.

My CC is a great guitar. I love it. I haven't changed anything.

I'm so sick of this "cancel culture" mentally. Scrutinizing every word anyone says, in or out of context.

Help help I'm being offended. Fire him!!!

Sheesh enough already.
OK, going to play my guitar !

Mike deserves an apology, and as usual he is a class act, and a gentleman.

the rest of the cc owners get what we get, a line of bullshit.

Apparently Gibson learned nothing from the play authentic fiasco.

Sorry JD- but this isn't cancel- Mat's quote was unattenuated corporate vomitus- sadly to me, a peek behind the curtain. That sort of "honesty" lands people in the Unemployment line. There are some things that just don't require saying...all married guys know this!
That said I certainly believe Mat's opinion of the CC series and $4 will get you a cup of Dunkin' coffee- and CC owners will still love their guitars.

He did apologize in his response note, and I'm good - thanks. Probably getting diminishing returns from this thread now.
