I know he mostly played Guild guitars* and the occasional Fender Stratocaster, Gibson ES 335 and Gibson SG electric guitars, but I listen to Blood Sweat and Tears a lot these days, and more specifically, that cool, psychedelic fuzz guitar solo on More and More. The guitar tone on that sounds very much like a Fender Stratocaster, like a Jimi Hendrix like sound. I know that Steve Katz was very much into Guild Amps and the occasional Fender Twin Reverb and Fender Bassman amps, turned up to 10, and played a variety of electric guitars, including a Fender Telecaster, a Gibson J200 Acoustic guitar and a Gretsch White Falcon, but does anyone know if he played a Gibson Les Paul? One of the Blues Project album covers shows Steve Katz playing a green Fender Jazzmaster. I remember seeing a picture from the New Blood era of Blood Sweat and Tears of Steve Katz playing a Fender Stratocaster. David Clayton-Thomas and Georg Wadenius were also known to play a Fender Stratocaster, a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson Les Paul. But has anyone been familiar with their gear and guitar setups? Please let me know. He's a very underrated guitarist.
*Much of those Guild guitars may have been props, but Blood Sweat and Tears bassist Jim Fielder primarily played Guild amps, so I could be right about the Guild endorsement.
