For your viewing pleasure (and to entice MikeSlub to post pictures of his Heritage 80, Elite, and Heritage Award guitars), here are some recent pictures of the first ever Gibson Les Paul Standard I ever bought. I am the original owner of this guitar. If it weren't for changed tuner scars (original Grovers are back on) and a couple of dings, this instrument is mint. Check out the control cavity with its metal screening box and untouched solder joints. Have fun dating those pots! Note how differently the plastic parts have aged / yellowed. I can vouch for the fact that all parts are original. Enjoy!

I have always wanted one of those. From reading Mike's articles on this forum. Closest I had was an '86 Reissue. That was a great fiddle.

nothing comes close to a Heritage 80 - those cutaway horns are so "pointy" you can prick your finger on them ;-)

I have a Heritage Standard 80 TSB that for some reason came with a chrome Nashville bridge. I first saw it on the music store wall in Feb 81 the first day I started there. It was the most beautiful guitar I had ever seen, righteous flame top.

That`s the guitar that ALWAYS gets asked back at jams and gigs. I will be packing up and there is always someone who comes by and asks if I`m bringing it the next time. None of my other guitars gets that reaction.

Mike can I ask a question please ? How does M87 compare with a Historic R9 ? I know they are 2 different instruments from very different eras , but I am curious . These are just mind blowing beautiful ! M87 really does it for me I tell you . My compliments !
Will pull it out this weekend and play it versus a few R9s to remind me of the differences. One thing I remember right off the bat is that it is heavier! :)

Mike , that is one of the beauties of the Norlin era . I have either become spoiled or used to heavier Les Paul's as I need 9lbs to hit the mark . I know some may scoff at this but there is a difference in tone with the lighter weight Les Paul's , as I find them to be a tad more brighter than the heavier ones . I will eagerly await your report and findings . Thanks Mike ! P.S. M87 is really Hot and checks the boxes for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Heritage case is ultra nice, seems to be the first reissue of a Lifton! I am looking but never saw one for sale. I had my Elite coming with a chainsaw Gen3.

Beautiful guitar Wernerg.

That guitar case is in amazing shape for being so old.

The case for my '80 "Jimmy Wallace" looks like it traveled the world several times over.

In my defense I did gig my guitar for several years before retiring it,but the case did it's job.

Here's my battered Gibson Lifton case

I see a case like that and say to myself that the stories that the case could tell would be something to listen and hear about .
