• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Seymour-Duncan-EVH-Custom-1979-1.jpg

Seymour Duncan got his start placing mag ads in the 1970's.
The SH-5 Duncan Custom was originally called the EVH pickup but Ed didn't like that idea and the endosement never happened.
The JB was named after Jeff Beck again the endorsement fell thru.

Did Strings 'n Things Memphis ever advertise their custom Les Pauls or was completely off the radar?

That's a beauty Mike.

LOVE the top.

I got an early '80 "Jimmy Wallace" '58RI Quilted LP Standard Prototype back in '84.

Bought it from a local club owner who I knew who featured Texas touring rock bands in the '80's

He'd bought this guitar off a Texas guitarist from Dallas, who regularly played the club.

The club ended up closing and he had no need for it, so he offered it to me for $500.

There's was NO WAY I could turn that deal down.

I ran into Jimmy W at a guitar show in Austin back in '05, and I had my LP with me.

He looked at it, and said it was indeed one of the very 1st Proto's that he had Gibson make, that was modeled after his own '58 LP.

He wanted Gibson to make a few samples to make sure he was happy before he placed an order on his 1st run of reissues.

He ended up selling off those 1st few Proto's, and I was lucky enough to score one.

Here's mine.

Hey guys, I have a Guitar Trader Les Paul and it looks nearly identical to Mike's... just 10 guitars apart according to the serial. It has the Tim Shaw's not real PAF's but they sound killer - and they have a funny 'Patent Applied For' sticker on them too - kinda 80's retro - didn't even try to replicate the actual real PAF stickers I guess :D

The guitar is so well made, the neck is a dream and the quality is everything I could ever want from a LP that doesn't cost as much as a new Bentley.

Here's some pics -

Thanks!
Mick

I am an easy mark for LP nostalgia- I love the thought of a GT LP. That and a Keebler. And a Wallace- and a Pre-Historic.
But only those.
Mike- what PU's are in yours? Some of the first GT's had real PAF's- which weren't the first-born-unicorn items they are now.

Can you imagine the good fortune it would be if you had one of the early GT LP's with actual PAF's . To me that would be a jackpot ! I remember these guitars very well from the ads in Guitar Player to my local Mom and Pop shop that had several of them and as a Younglin I drooled plenty over the tops and colors as they were and are so cool !
