• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I'm no dealer, but there was a limited number of 'Bursts built. About 1600 of them, IIRC.
Aside from the joke that of those, there's about 2500 now known... I'm not sure the exact number that are now listed. known and documented.
I'm sure there are more held in private collections that haven't seen the light of day in ages, but over time, those previously unknown surfacing will slow down and eventually stop. As those collectors, like Dirk Ziff, who's rumored to own a huge number of them, pass, there will be surges of previously unknown coming up, but I think that many of those are already known.
I'm sure of those 1600 originals built, there is a signiicant number, possibly a few hundred, if not more, that have been lost / destroyed.

I've worked in guitar stores in the Netherlands since 1990 and I have seen 3 bursts walk in, Eelco Gelling's 1960, the Dutchburst 1960 and the Amsterdam burst 1958.

When the market reaches crazy peaks, I'm not surprised the holders are finding ways to let them out.

The visibility of these discoveries is also far greater these days as the people involved create posts on every guitar forum, FB, Instagram, probably Tiktok (but I don't got there.)

Case in point, Colin Cripps found one several years ago in Canada, and it was relatively private. Now, you have to blast that info all over the place, get pro photos taken of it, put in a magazine, etc etc. 10-15 years ago, that wasn't the case.
