• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Looking to replace the stock Stop Tailpiece on my Historic Les Paul and have narrowed it down to these two.
Anyone had any experience with both? ...... which do you prefer?
I would take it that the Faber aluminum would be brighter, and the Callaham thicker?
Normally don't prefer brighter, but like the idea of the ToneLock Studs/Spacers on the Faber.

I say Pigtail Music from my experience, all the way!
If you have to choose between the two, however, I have a Faber with brass saddles on my Epiphone and I love it as well.

I would say the stock tailpiece that the custom shop installs on the guitar, since it is a Historic les paul.Im into upgrading my Historics as well, only with more vintage correct parts.Ive installed Cremetone poker chips, on my R9 and R0, and a Montreux time machine 3 way toggle switch tip on my R0 as well.

As far as the tailpiece, either Pigtail, Montreux, or my favorite, Stock

Unfortunately, I just picked up a used Historic and the seller threw a cheap-o no name stop tailpiece on it, otherwize I would have just kept it stock.

Oh....ok man,..i think the Pigtail model would be cool then, i hear those are really vintage correct or as close too it as possible.I think another member mentioned that as well

The OP here said that he bought the guitar used with an allready replaced tailpiece, so he is looking to replace it with a better model. He could go stock, sure but since he has to buy one, why not Pigtail, or sure even stock

Also i forgot to ask...How do you know its a cheap no name tailpiece? Forgive my ignorance but , i believe the stop tailpiece, that my 2019 R9 and 2018 R0, have nothing written on the bottom of them... i think my 2016 Gibson USA les paul Standard says “Advanced Plating” on the bottom, but Historics dont say anything.Did the seller tell you the tailpiece was a replacement?

Yes, the seller told me he would be removing his upgraded tailpiece.
He didn't have the original, but had a cheap-o tailpiece he had in his parts bin.
It looks cheap and is much heavier than a stock Historic tailpiece.
I went ahead and ordered a Pigtail stop tailpiece and Callaham bridge, posts & thumb wheels

Oh ok, that explains that,...awsome man, i hear the Pigtails are good, they supposedly make them with the larger brass saddles like the origional 50’s were, and a more vintage correct body.

I've tried Faber, with locking studs and their regular studs, RS Guitarworks, Tonepros and Pigtail. I much prefer the stock Gibson Historic tailpiece and studs. My second choice is Faber tailpiece with RS studs.
