• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I am particularly not one to say "oohhh! You need to do x-y-or z to that guitar". I bet $1 Kim at Historic Makeovers could give you an idea of what it would look like after HM had their way with it- and it would jar your fillings loose.

Beautiful R9 i have the same guitar in a gloss finish, i think they even used a different laquer formula that year, less plasticizers, mine is allready checking near the cutout area where the neck and body meet

That's really nice!

On a side note, that dry grass and sagebrush in the background reminds me of home in the Okanagan.

Enjoy the weather!

Thanks for all the kind comments. I am really enjoying this guitar. I was hesitant to spend the money not knowing what to expect but there is definitely something special about these 60th Anniversary '59's. Corpse- I'm not too much into relics, actually not sure I even care for the rusted hardware on this guitar. I may swap out the parts from my 2000 Classic that haven't rusted. Not sure on that. Brandtkronholm-it came with an amber switch tip. That white tip and the the 4 control knobs are originals off a 1960 Melody Maker. I'm put them on the '59 for some vintage mojo:). Maple-I'm in southern Idaho. Luckily a fire hasn't ran through yet!

Here's my entry into the Les Paul world 20 some years ago-2000 Classic swapped with Burstbuckers 1 & 2. It's also a great guitar.

That's another nice guitar!

How do you like the Burstbuckers compared to the Custombuckers in your R9?

Southern Idaho, eh? I should have known with a name like IDLP.

Those desert or xeric shrublands are a dead giveaway for you being out west.

I suppose that you have more than few rattlers slithering around out there, too.

I don't miss them at all.

Beautiful looking guitar. Congrats and enjoy.

Love the finish. I have a 2016 R9 in 2019 Sunrise Teaburst in a gloss finish.

I prefer the CustomBuckers but I do like the BurstBuckers. They are very similar, with the magnet type being the biggest difference (ll vs lll). Both are un-potted. The CustomBuckers have a bit more clarity? Just for curiosity I measured the resistance of both. Classic-BB1 (neck) 7.62, BB2 (bridge) 8.11, R9-CB neck 7.84 and bridge 7.80. Obviously the BB bridge in the Classic is a bit more aggressive. I play the R9 more now because it's about a pound lighter but I do enjoy playing the Classic.

Thanks!

I have BurstBucker 2 (neck) and 3 (bridge) pickups in my two Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standards......and quite like them.

I did notice that the CustomBuckers seem to have more clarity in this gentleman's YouTube comparison video:

I was just curious what your thoughts were.

Those resistance measurements sure are interesting. I should get around to measuring my guitars one of these days.

I've noticed that back in the late 2000's, Gibson was using BurstBuckers 1 and 2 (neck and bridge, respectively.)

It's interesting to me how they've gone from being a high-end pickup, to second string, in such a short period of time.

They still sound pretty nice to me, though.

Too bad that I can't just buy some CustomBuckers on their own.

It depends on what you prefer, really.

There is a set on Reverb right now, but it’s freakingly pricey!

Nice video! Thanks!

I actually prefer the BurstBuckers in that one.

They seem a little muted compared to the CustomBuckers, but they also don't sound as tinny.

Thanks for the heads up on the CustomBuckers, but that guy in Seoul can keep them.

They're just over $900 CAD.

I'll keep looking for a good deal on a used VOS.

IDLP can't have all the luck!:)
