• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Great looking R9. Well done. Burstbuckers came in different flavours too...not all are the same thing. I know I'm a broken record, but the very first Burstbucker Pro's from '02 are very close to my PAF's...

Nice mineral streaks on that R9!

Jeez Maple. That 59 Epi in the video you linked sounded sweet! If either of yours sound that good I don't think CustomBuckers would be much of an improvement. Fooling around with both LP's tonight comparing the neck pickups with controls set the same the Burstbucker (BB1) is louder and a bit more wooly (muffled?) compared to the CustomBucker. The CustomBucker is clearer and warmer? This is straight into the amp (Carr Mercury V), no pedals. Straight into the amp the Custombuckers are my preference. Throw some pedals into the mix and the differences aren't so noticeable to me. Plus, I rarely go back and forth between these two guitars when I'm playing. I would be more likely to grab something of a different flavor like a strat or a P90.

Thanks. The mineral streaks are what drew me to this guitar. I like the uniqueness of it. As for the burstbuckers in my Classic, they are great pick ups and I have enjoyed them for many years and will continue to enjoy them. It was one of the best moves I ever made swapping out the ceramic pickups that came in the Classic for the BB’s, and a 50’s wiring kit. It has been my only LP for 20 years so it must be a keeper!

It does sound good, doesn't it?

He later goes on to install an aluminum Faber tailpiece and some boutique pick-ups made by Matt Gleeson of Monty's Guitars.

The most noticeable improvement, though, is the lightweight tailpiece.

The pick-ups he bought used and got a deal on them. They're meant to simulate a Peter Green tone with a flipped magnet and (42 AWG?) heavy Formvar magnet wire in the neck.

He forgot to flip the neck humbucker when he installed it in his '59 Epiphone LP, though.

Matt Gleeson mentions the specs on his custom, Peter Green humbuckers here at the 15:13 mark. The whole interview is a good watch.

I'm fascinated by the technical side of it, but It's all pretty irrelevant to me.

My age and playing skills don't really justify any expensive gear.

My Epiphones are good enough for me, and they sound great, but I's still like to get a nice VOS is I can find one for a reasonable price.

There's just something about a genuine Gibson Les Paul.

I picked up two nice Telecasters recently, too. A Strat may be next if I can find one that I like.

Although, I really need to practice more than I need another guitar.

That's really nice!

On a side note, that dry grass and sagebrush in the background reminds me of home in the Okanagan.

Enjoy the weather!

Were you in the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia, or in Okanogan County in Washington State?

We spell it differently in Canada, but they back up to each other. I grew up in the Central Okanagan near Kelowna.

But yeah, there sure were a lot of Mule Deer there.

I saw lots of nice racks on them when I was hiking in the bush as a kid, but never any when I was out hunting for them in my 20's.

I've driven by Fort Lewis a few times. I saw them loading tanks onto a train, once.

I think there were more M1 Abrams there, than there are Leopards in the entire Canadian Forces.

I also have a 2000 classic that will give any historic including mine a run for its money. Those are sleepers.
