• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Goldtop; they are old T652’s with the Marshall “Uxbridge Rd” labels. My friend Jim Elyea who wrote the “Vox-JMI years” book had them and sold them to me way back when.
we just got in from Amsterdam last night and I caught Bronchitis the night before we left.. so give me a couple of days. I’m sitting in Urgent Care at Kaiser right now..

Look after yourself Don, I hate bronchial infections, all the best with the recovery.
You hit the jackpot with the old T652s. Negotiating on a pair of 650s right at the moment for my 1962HW, will see how it goes.
Cheers, Steve.

I was fortunate in getting a couple of T731 alnicos recently for it so they're in there and it sounds great, the Collins cloth doesn't make any difference to my ears so that's allayed any of my fears. It's a very loud combo of course with with a very good overall clear tone, at 2(out of 10) on the Vol I get a nice crunch sound and then it goes from there to overdriven at 5-6 on the dial.
Funnily enough the cloth on the 1962LE here in Auckland(the package one that has the '12 '57 GT with Marshall inlay @NZ$35k) I remember as feeling very rubbery/spongy which was a put off, the piece on mine is not as severe as that at all thank goodness, so I surmise that as with everything there are the different eras of manufacture as with all products over the years.
