• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I have direct-from-Gibson B-stock guitars that I love, they were great deals and far better condition than described.

IF you loved how it feels and plays, that minor imperfection would fade away unless you are super picky collector grade obsessed.

If is meant to be your main 'player' then that's a good discount, assuming you love how it feels and plays.
Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. I guess I'm really just worried about the neck - I'm not sure I'd get on with a fat neck as I'm used to thinner ones. I'll have to have a think about it......

What CAN you try that's in-person, close by, from Gibson USA? Which models are handy? Go try what's close, list your impressions, and we can help steer you a bit.

New USA 50 Standards aren't baseball bat thick as compared to the REALLY big Gibson necks, but it's all relative to your taste and experience.

Odds are there will be something comparable to the 50s/60s, especially there will be several comparable to a 60s Standard, closer to other US Slim Tapers. For example: If you love nothing bigger than a Classic, then err towards the 60s.

If you think you can get used to something bigger... then it's all up to your feel and mental adjustment.

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. Unfortunately, the town that I live in in the UK, doesn't stock Gibson guitars of any shape or form (unless 2nd hand) - just Fenders, Squires, Gretsch, etc. so it's a bit awkward for me to get to the nearest Gibson reseller. I could actually buy the B-stock 50s Les Paul and if not happy, send it back (the cost to do this would probably equal the cost to travel to the nearest Gibson shop so.........). Decisions, decisions...

I purchased my one-year old Standard ‘50s Les Paul used and in mint condition and with all the case candy, I imagine that I saved at least $700 over a brand new guitar.

You should maybe look into trying Standard ‘60s Les Paul and purchase it from a store with s good return policy.

Hi all, I hope you're all doing good wherever you are. I decided to visit my nearest city to spend some time in a guitar store (as you guys rightly recommended) to check out some of the 50s and 60s LPSs so I could get a feel for the neck differences. I tried a 50s Goldtop first and thought the neck was on the large side, but it sounded really really good AND it stayed in tune. Tried a 60s but didn't like the pickups as much as the 50s but the neck was nice (in my opinion). Anyhow, I tried all sorts - SG standard 61 reissue which sound great to my ears (but tuning issues as it had the sideways vibrola), a classic (didn't like the pickups), a TV` yellow Special (nice but not quite what I was looking for), some PRSs, few Fenders. However, I kept coming back to the 50s Goldtop so have got that one which will be delivered tomorrow. I actually got used to the neck profile and it feels fine for me - but primarily, the guitar was so well setup up from the factory with no major finish issues - also, I was there over 2 hours, and the guitar stayed in tune throughout!! (totally shocked). I figured that I've found a good one, so would be stupid not to get it!!!

Thanks again for everyone's advice about this - much appreciated :)

Congratulations, and welcome to the Standard ‘50s club. I love my 2021 GT Standard ‘50s.
