• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

    Burstbuckers vs '57 Classics

In my cynical opinion, they have all changed specs depending on the year, right down to: I believe Gibson just put whatever sticker on whatever pickups at some point. Early 57's were great, middle period 57's were good, but at some point, 2013 or so, I think they were 57 Classics in name only...

Guitars that make you sick to your stomach

There is never justification for turning them into what I consider an abomination: something they never were. I understand that a Burst fetches more $$$$$ and fuels delicate egos, but in my world, Goldtops rule supreme, P-90 Goldtops even more so. (y) To me it is adding '57 fins to a '55...

Guitars that make you sick to your stomach

Every Goldtop that gets its neck drilled and steamed out, routed for humbuckers, converted to a burst. Or any combination thereof. Shame on you. That goes for the 50s Specials and Juniors that get converted, too. What the actual???? Other than greed or inferiority complex, there is no legit...

    Sore neck

Since my mid-40's, I have had to pay careful attention to my guitar height and making sure my picking hand is not too high, which creates tension and severe pain in my neck and which runs down my arm in the form of extreme burning sensation. The good news is, I can manage it and still play. It...

P-90's: Talk about your favorite non-Gibson experiences

I think the stock Gibson P-90s take some beating, tone wise. I have heard it argued that the specs are not "vintage correct" but the tones are great. Depending on what year R6, yours may have the standard, off the shelf Gibson P-90 (A5), or any variety of A2 or A3 magnet, standard wind or...

Fargen Mini Plex MKlll what speakers for 2x12 cab

Greenbacks are always the answer for classic tone. V30s will give you modern tone. I, personally, cannot stand them. Others love them, though.

    The least expensive tube amp

I always liked my MIC Champion 600. As far as I can tell, these are the same thing. If the amp having tubes is your only requirement.... not bad.

Wrap tails lets see what you have any flavor !

My only wrap tail. I would like an R4 or MIJ variant to go with it, but it will probably by an Original Collection P-90 Goldtop if prices and availability ever tip in the buyers favor, again. 2020 OC LP Special. It is awesome. I love it!

Should I let go of this '55 TV Special I've had for 25 years?

If it plays well, I would not do anything further to it. JMHO.

What ToneBender model did Jeff Beck use on Truth/Beck-Ola ?

Tonebender MK II into a solid state Rickenbacker Transonic? 🤔 A Vintage JTM45 or AC30 might do the trick, too.

What to expect from a light Les Paul?

There is nothing like a 6 lb Les Paul! This chambered 50's Tribute was 7lbs, 7oz. and sounded fantastic. This boat anchor is 8 lbs, but it still sounds incredible!
