• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Why do Bursts look different from different angles?

I like the term "peekaboo flame" ... which is clearly the case on my Vermillion Burst Slash. You see all of its detail under bright lights, but mild lighting renders it "cloudy":

How to describe the sound of your Les Paul

All my LPs sound loud and thick unplugged, especially when compared to thin-sounding, "plink-plink" Strats and Teles.

OK...what the heck is going on, here?

    $7.99 shipped from AMS.

Guitars that make you sick to your stomach

Just saw this in the other LP forum. Suffice to say I'll be skipping lunch now.

    LP weights

I happen to think 9 to 9.5 lbs. is the ideal weight range for a Paul. My Classics are in the lower tier of that range and my Standards are in the upper.

    How Can Wood Effect Tone?

How Can - you not hear - Wood Effect Tone? It absolutely does. Scientific jabberwocky not required. Just open your ears.

If you could only have one amp one guitar and no pedals. What is it?

Any one of my Les Pauls and a JCM900.

The Fabled Les Paul/Gibson tuning issues?

Yes the G string would egregiously slip out of tune... when I was 12 and didn't know how to properly wind and stretch them. But I learned and for 35 years (and counting) all the strings on my Les Pauls stay in tune.

Guitars that make you sick to your stomach

Hmmm... I think I hate it less as a bass.... and she is better looking than Edmunds. I guess you did make it somewhat better.

Guitars that make you sick to your stomach

Here's an example of what you can find on AMS: they have preview pics of all the tops offered. They also list the weight.

    Sight unseen

I've bought quite a few LPs online and have yet to be disappointed. Solids and plain tops I will roll the dice on... but flame tops I will not buy without a pic first. Try AMS, they show pics of the premium tops and have lots of payment options. Sweetwater shows pics of all their guitars, but...

Is 9.4 lbs considered real heavy for a 2019 R6?

I've never owned a LP under 9lbs. (except for one Tribute at 8.5 lbs. which felt "too light"). I think 9lbs. or a little over feels right on a Paul. BTW the checking on that Gold Top looks very cool.

I Named My Les Pauls Today

Just like my dog, each one of my LPs has multiple names, dictated by my mood. For instance my Ebony Classic: Eb, Ebs, Ebby, E.B., Ebster, Ebsicle, & Oreo. :giggle:

I Think Gibson Is Really Back!

I've bought 3 new LPs since 2019 and they all have been spot-on... especially the fretwork (4th one is en route lol). One of them was a spontaneous buy at GC, similar to your experience. It was an Ebony Classic that blew me away right off the rack... wasn't leaving GC without it.
