´52 P-90 magnet idying question

For a customer´s early 50´s restoration I acquired two sets of early 50´s P-90.
I have to be absolutely sure to get him vintage correct parts. He´s a real important customer for me, so nothing should be questionable !

I´ve observed that the magnets in the pickups look like they had been made by breaking one large magnet into two pieces . On each PU´s magnet one end is smooth ( rough-cast-smooth ) , the other end shows marks of a break. It looks like 1/16" of the surface had been cut by a machine, than it was broken in two.

Can this be correct for early ´50s p-90 ?

I checked my 55 and 56 p-90´s and all of them show two casted ends. Nothing roughly broken at all !
I´ve heard about p90 magnets to be robbed for " long magnet-.....". That is why I could imagine those are not the original magnets any more.

Please help.
cheers

You do see those extra large 'snapped' magnets on the very early P90s, and is a feature only seen on '52s IME- have a google about and you'll see some examples IMO.

Thanks J@S !

I did a google as well as any forum searches.

With no fine result I neecd experience of knowledgeable persons ( like I know you are ).

Another question regarding those PU´s : what colour should the baseplates have on those early p-90 ?
Are there paper-thin covers (cream) without any numbers/characters ?

Thanks Y.
cheers

Sounds to me like you have a nice set of '52 p-90s. Pics would confirm this or not.

I really dig the weird fat/broken magnet early P90s (I know J45 also covets them fwiw), and they usually have an almost gun metal blue colour to the baseplates and domed flathead baseplate screws- covers should also be the ultra thin type as noted, often curled over the bottom edges and rather tricky to remove.

Thank you all !
Exact the information I was hoping for.

The wire is more red/copper. That is correct, too ? My ´55´s show the dark, brownish/purple wire.

Ive had several 52 with these magnets, they are my favorites. Big fat sounding like a PAF. Great pickups. I did a thread and had pictures about these years ago. :salude
