• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I was thinking about my old guitar recently. Back in 1986, I traded a Peavey bass and amp for what I was told, a ‘69 Deluxe Goldtop. It was a little beat up, and someone had installed a regular size humbucker in the bridge position ( with a mini toggle switch between the volume and tone knobs). A split coil switch?

I contacted Mandolin Bros over the phone about the age just to verify. I read the serial number, and the gentleman over the phone said he’d have to see the guitar, but it seemed like a ‘74 to him, so I was a bit surprised.

In 1991, I put the guitar up on consignment at my local music store ( same one where I traded for it), and got $400 for it…..

I know its long gone now, but I was wondering what year it really was. I lost pictures of it, so I don’t have the serial, and I don’t remember if it had a volute or not ( although I do remember two “skunk stripe” inlays, a headstock repair.)

I was noticing different Deluxes that had “goof” cheater rings around the pickups, and some don’t. My neck pickup definitely did not have a ring. So would not having goof rings be a indicator of what year it was? Just curious! Thanks
30 years later I still miss it and regret selling it!

Do you remember if the body was a single layer of mahogany or three?

Going on a 30 plus year memory, but I think it had the line where it looked like two pieces, aka “the pancake or sandwich” body?
