• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

OK.. I worked it up last night. All prices include FedEx Ground shipping with insurance and tracking

I'm going to limit this to 10 amp kits for this pass. I will reserve the amps already spoken for, but I will also need email confirmation with your addresses and phone numbers and which option you want. Like I said this list will be destroyed after we're done.

All said and done the totals are:

Option 1) : Chassis, faceplates, transformers and bare turret board: $230 shipped/insured

Option 2) Full kit form, ALL parts, incl above #1 with modern tubes, ECI yellow tube caps, CTS/Alpha pots, ceramic sockets, Marshall parts such as jacks, switches, indicator lamp, Xicon carbon comp resistors, Sprague electrolytics, cloth braid wire,
power cord w/straian relief, schematics and diagrams, etc $500 shipped/insured

Option 3) If I build it with all above $750 shipped and insured.

The bad news. I was discussing this with the wife, and she wanted me to ask for full prepay as we can't afford to float this right now, so if you're still interested email me at oldguy17@yahoo.com, as final acceptance and I'll send you back an email with addresses and phone number

address to send payment, checks and money orders only (make it out to me David Johansen):

I *NEED* your Forum login names too!! Thanks

Thanks guys and we're gonna have some fun

PS.. Not to worry, I did make room for a tiny margin in the orders to cover shipping and insurance and handling like boxes and stuffing and documentation. and a bit for my time to package all of this up. It is no more than $30 per unit.

Reserve list, it's full...

All 10 have been spoken for. I will put together the "waiting list" of those may be interested and if there's enough people we'll do another run. Even if it's full there may be some drop-off so send me at least an email with your option if your not on the list below.. I need Forum login names too..

I have received 7 final confirmations with options so far, but I need the other 3 via email if you want in..

Confirmed = email received
Verbal Yes = replied on the Forum with a yes
Verbal Maybe = might do it.

If you choose at this time not to participate, that's cool. This is the time to bail if you need to, no harm, no foul. I need a confirmed count with $$$ on the way by Monday 8/11 so I can cover the orders. I want to get this done ASAP so you have them in your hands in about 3 - 4 weeks. I will keep you informed of any delays, etc...

Here is the reserve list:

TedB Confirmed
Myself Confirmed
EdR Confirmed
RICH Confirmed
EdA Verbal maybe
Brucem Confirmed
davepaf Verbal yes
kt66 Confirmed
TBoneDeluxe Confirmed
OneL Confirmed

5 on the "waiting" list

NOCD, I'd love to do the Option #3, but I'm w/DaveP on this- not enough discretionary $ at this time. Sorry bro, maybe the next run?

18watt stuff

Hi Guys,

I've been very busy these last few days so I haven't had a chance to reply to some of the questions that have been posted.

Dave is doing a great thing here building all these 18w kits. The 18w is about as complicated as a tweed Deluxe to build and it kills the Deluxe for a tight-bottom distortion tone. This little amp kills.

The only caveat I would mention is that the cabinet is a lot of work if you want to do it right. Its also quite expensive. The hardware is ridiculous. The best deal going that I have seen is from armadillo - they only want $310 for a mini-bluesbreaker cabinet. I'll buy that one next time.

I assume most of you are already on the Yahoo 18w list if you are serious about building an 18w, but if not, it is highly recommended.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/18watt

There is also my own 18watt page at

http://elektro.cmhnet.org/~graydon/18wattmain.html

We have schematics, layouts, MP3s of real 18watts, and photos of real and clone 18watts.

I'll try to answer questions as you build your clones. I've been there once already. :)

Later,

Guys..

This is *THE* 18 watt guy!! Without him there would be no project!!

Graydon,

This thing has sort of taken a life of it's own, I hope you can participate here as well.. Your insight will be invaluable!!

I'm planning on dropping over to the 18watt Forum when I get a chance..

Hey Graydon,

I went into your configurations and changed some stuff, so you should have better luck with the board now. I tried to email you, but your spam filter won't let my email thru.

Anyway, let me know if it's still giving you problems.

Hey Gang,

I just went over to the 18watt forum and introduced ourselves to them. This place is an *AMAZING* collection of information and resources. I *STRONGLY* urge you to read this forum before you get your kits as you may find TONS of interesting ideas from which to draw from and want to deviate from what I am presenting to you in kit form...

I just learned that the Alpha pots I *was* going to source don't fit the Marshall knobs very well!! So I'm off to find the better pots for the 1K and 2M speed and tremolo controls...

Hey Dave, Do I want the remelo circuit in mine? I'm thinking no, since I'll never use it, but I'll defer if the general concensus says keep it.
I was just under the impression that they put out a little more without the trem circuit.

Marshall Knobs on Alpha pots

Dave,

The standard reissue Marshall knobs fit the Mouser Alpha pots just fine. They are tight, but they fit. I used the Alpha pots on my clone.

Also, the plexi panel is screened for the tremolo, so I would recommend you use it unless you don't mind hacking up the control panel. The trem circuit is very simple, and it is a nice effect. If you don't want it, don't turn it on.

trem in 18watt

Ed,
Disconnecting the trem in a Marshall 18 won't increase the output of the Trem channel enough to even notice.
But if you didn't build the trem section in your amp you would have 1/2 of a 12AX7 unused. That could be used to add a gain stage to the old Trem channel.
I threw up some ideas for the Trem channel for anyone who doesn't like tremelo over at the 18watt site. It is post #1003.
