• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The hexagonal nuts and fixed-arm Bigsby suggest those are pretty early specimens. The all-original caps suggest you should get that amp to a reliable tech before anyone sticks its undoubtedly two-pronged cord into an outlet again. Great stuff. I've been on both sides of Gruhn appraisals, and while they might not get you top dollar or lowest price, they're fair. Same for Walter Carter. Where are you? There are good appraisers coast-to-coast.

Hi,

This is some really cool stuff you're showing here!
I've been looking for a bigsby goldtop for many years and would love to make you (and the owner) a serious offer for the package or both.
Can you please send me a email and lets have a talk! dagluyten123@hotmail.com

Many thanks! What a killer piece!
Dag

Dream worthy stuff here! Congrats on you both for recognizing a very cool pair. I second the comments about the early Bigbsy and the safety in NOT plugging in the tweed Deluxe before it visits an amp tech.

Also, can you take a closer look at the area under the bigsby on the bass side in the area of the fulcrum that the strings attach to. There's a dark spot there. Is that a shadow or perhaps a hole from an earlier tailpiece?

The bigsby is original in my opinion. The dark spot some people are referring to is shadow in my opinion. The fixed bigsby arm is correct for that era of the guitar.
Love to hear from you and the owner for a possible sale.

Hello all. By way of update, the pair sold, full asking price, buyer (in Germany!!) paid all shipping and insurance costs. So a happy end for all involved. The seller was thrilled at the unexpected payday that'll help her have more of a down payment for a new house (she's down-sizing as she's getting older). Buyer is thrilled with the new (old) gear.

Thanks for all the interest and pointers!!

The Klusons are closed with no worm shaft showing and hex bushings which all point an early bound 1952 LP. The pots look like IRC but have you pulled any of the barrel knobs to see if the IRC shafts are unsplit brass or if they're aluminum? The knobs are not tall type and regular short barrels don't fit well on a 1952 brass IRC shaft because they are thicker shafts. Most times short knobs will crack if installed on a 52 IRC. If you measure with a caliper you'll see they're thicker than the 53 unsplit aluminum shafts.

One thing to be aware of: In the first photo showing the back of the amp, the top panel has been screwed back on upside down. You should see the tubes through the two rounded windows, not the inards of the amp. This is a safety issue as anyone could put their fingers in and get a shock. Hopefully the new owner will correct this
