• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Probably not a hard cutover between the cases, and more of an overlap, like many of the other things. i.e., Thermometer cases dragged on past mid-53.
i bought a 58 esquire from the original owner and it came in a poodle case! he said he bought it new in 56 and had to make payments.
maybe when he started payments in 56 they stuck it in back in a new 3 year old case? then maybe the guitar was mistakenly pulled from the case and sold then when he finished paying they stuck a new 58 in the case and handed it to him? came with a 'white' amp as well. actually i still have the original rcpt i,m going to dig it out and do some detective work! i forget the date on it.

awesome! 53's were some gooduns! its interesting that their may be a quite a few more blackguards that will change hands in the next few years,i tracked one down a couple weeks ago, he is a bass player (another bass player!) with a 52, he doesnt want to sell at this point. the crazy part is that somewhere along the way he carved a humbucker into the lead slot! not sure how with the plate and all, i havent seen it yet, i would probably throw a p.a.f. in there and rock on!

awesome! 53's were some gooduns! i scored this one a couple weeks ago. dude had it since 73, he was the bass player so not much wear on the frets, this one you dial the tone knob back just a skoshe and it blooms! volume comes up a tad, gets fuller. its an awsome git.
Congrats! That is the bomb!

I don't have the exact weight, but I'm pretty sure it's about 7.5.

Neck carve is harder to describe. It's NOT a obvious V carve, which I'm personally not a fan of. It feels "meaty", for lack of a better term. If hard pressed, I could probably sense a slight point of a V, but overall it's more like a C or D shape. Other than the Fender fretboard radius, it feels almost more vintage Gibson than vintage Fender, if that makes any sense. Probably why I loved the neck so much.
there was a time 'back in the day' when a 53 was thee one to have because it was said they had nice full necks on them, kind of interesting because you still had guys like tadeo, xaviere and zamora shaping the necks during those years.
i remember gruhns 53's were a thousand dollars more for a 53, $3500 as opposed to $2500.
53's are my fave window in time for blackguard tele,s the dots even look better lol.
thats amazing you were able to carry your tele on. in the overhead? there must have been only an inch or two to spare lengthwise? and you got the book with it!!
