• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Anyone know the significance of the #2 in the trem cavity on this guitar? I've seen one other with a similar mark but have never been able to find any info.

I love the grain! How about a shot of the top?

I would also like to see what else is behind the springs. They would write body dates in the cavities in these Strats, example 2/54?

Pencil dates in cavities are not uncommon. Mine has "5/60" IIRC.

Might be a batch number or something similar. As far as I am aware, the #s only seem to be found on early pre-full scale production '54 Strats.

Yeah, I've always assumed they were doing some experimenting with different things. I thought it might be cool to know what exactly but I'm not sure that answer is out there anywhere.
