Shine a light a rat will come running out from under the guitar . Severe play grooves in top ? Severe fade around pick guard that was most likely not on the guitar most of its life having such deep scalloped wear ? Way to many stories I'm confused who's on first .

If guitar is a deal and you want a legitimate 57 pass !!!!

If the guitar is priced accordingly for a 57 pass !!

The posted Guitar is in limbo best to leave it there someday the chicken will taste like eagle AGAIN !!

They made all rounded cavities for les paul goldtop in 1968, and also on specials in the 50s, but in both cases the wire channel is positioned in a different way in comparison. I've found no info of all rounded edges in the 50s for a gold

You may be right about it being a 60's model.

thank you! I'll surely pass but my concern was if I could show some evidences to the seller, maybe they have no idea as well. All my guts know is that this can't be a straight 50s LP

The cavities though...I was like wtf once I saw this.
Those are different cavities. One on top is for a maple top, the one below is for an all Mahogany guitar. It's the same like on a Custom. There have been no 68s, all Mahogany. Even the 60s Customs had a maple top.

Yes, but I've found no original 57s mahogany top with all rounded cavities. Do you have any examples to show ? thank you!

I am sure the seller knows what it is and he is trying to pass it on or off and makes his bucks . So many scammers out there and one has to do there homework . Also for my own peace of mind protection I will only purchase from reputable shops . Also remember the old adage if it seems to good to be true it probably is .

This IS a well known shop, but I agree with you, I just hoped to find some evidence of what this thin is or is not, because it's really odd to my eye.

Now you have to tell me so I can check it out . Rest assured I am not buying it.
I'd love to receive opinion from those who know more about these before telling the name of the shop, once you name it, nobody will talk about the guitar anymore =) Hope Mike S. or Eric E. or others will say something about the guitar.

Nobody will talk about the guitar anymore? Well I don't know man, my curiosity has been piqued. I'd like to know what it is so I'm not sure what you mean by that?

I'd love to receive opinions on the guitar, the judgement on it shouldn't be modified weather or not people like the seller.

I get that but there's a lot at play here. What is the seller charging? What are his 'claims'? What kind of reviews do they have? etc etc. I've seen a few 'reputable' sellers of fakes on Reverb.

I mentioned all of those claims: he claimed the guitar has been restored by Tom Murphy, from a white paint oversprayed onto the original finish, so he basically offer this as per original finish, yet restored. And they said Tom re stamped the serial. I asked proof of this restorarion, received zero. And precisely for what you just said, I'd love to stick on the guitar, if I mention the seller the topic of the discussion will be lost. The asking price if 50% of a all original goldtop 57.

The back color is not late sixties- they are a more yellow/gold. The PUP's look like early PAF's.
It has to be played- BUT any guitar like this will be difficult to sell with a (as TW said) "three-legged-dog story".
It needs to be inspected by someone legit.

Wiring channel in wrong spot. Is it square or round? 1974-
thank you, yes, the wiring channel hole is in a weird position, top left corner, and all the cavity sides are rounded, never seen anything like this in a real Goldtop 57

An all mahogany guitar it is drilled straight through from the jack socket. So it is round not square. The question is why the all cavity sides are rounded.
Precisely, I've never seen those sides like that in a Goldtop.
