Just scored this beautiful 1957 Les Paul Special from John at True Vintage Guitars. Before the original owner passed away in the 1960’s, she had it completely oversprayed in a metallic blue nitro finish. (Pelham ) The entire guitar was oversprayed in a metallic blue nitro finish, except for the face of the headstock, the original finish remains underneath the blue. The original tuner buttons crumbled so they were replaced with new buttons. The truss rod nut still has untouched factory black paint which indicates that it's never been adjusted. The chipboard alligator case still has the Sherman Clay badge. New frets ate gonna bring it alive!!!!

Sherman Clay? Wasn't that the large music store located in the San Fernando Valley?

Love the blue. It works! Toggle switch plate would help match the pickguard?

What is the guard made of? I'd counter sink the guard screws as it would be a much better fit/finish?

i love old refins! this thing is shweeet! i have some old cool refins and i wouldnt change them for the world! and when i finally move them down the road someone will get a great guitar for less than a stock one. seems to be a strong trend of pro players using refin and broken guitars, at least quite a few i saw on rig run downs, awesome.

a few years ago someone gave my daughter a box at her boarding stables with a bunch of old horse tack in it, at the bottom i found a white guitar strap like this one!
i put it on my white sg special.. score! the white strap on this blue guitar will be pretty groovy!

This is one of my favorite guitars that I've played in recent memory! The oversprayed metallic blue with serial number window sticking out is so honest. It's not pretending to be anything more that what it is. The last picture here shows the 1960s Gibson made flat wound strings with orange silk wrapped ball ends that were still on the guitar when I got it. I'm so glad you got this one Kris!

I'm sure there is a picture from the 1960s with its original owner out there somewhere. If you see a picture out there from the 1960s with a female guitarist holding a blue '57 LP Special with a white leather strap, please let me know!
