• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

That's looks like what they call "barn fresh"! Scary, but way cool! I would ask a lot more questions and get a few better picts. MHO:ganz

I've been asking a few questions. They plugged into the amp and it hums but "nothing comes out the speakers". I had them try all 4 inputs and raise/lower the volume and they said the hum doesn't change. The only non-original thing I can see is the swapped out power switch but I'm not sure how comfortable I am about the transformers. I was thinking I was in up to maybe $1750 but I don't know if it's worth rolling the dice at much more than that.

How much of it could you fix and maintain the original parts? At the end of all the repairs would it sound much better than a boutique or a kit? I think you would really need to know what your getting into and what you are going to need to do to go down this road - If you have the knowledge the time and the money - it could be very cool.

3 grand with about an hour left for an amp that doesn't even work and looks about the same as a dog's chewed up rawhide toy.

You've got to laugh at the sure idiocy that eBay encourages.

I had a bad feeling it was going to go over $3k. I got a final email and they said they could see some pinholes in at least one speaker cone, I'm guessing there's a fair chance they all have some. Even if there's nothing else wrong that fresh tubes won't fix I can't say I'd feel like I got a good deal if it was me.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

If I spent that amount of money on that amp and the shape its in my wife wouldn't stop slapping me.

I'd be better off telling her I spent the money on hookers and blow.

True.

But with the amount of surgery that bassman is gonna' need, plan on a lot of bleeding too.

I agree, it's going to cost a grand+ unless you steel it. Then you have 2gee's to put her back in shape. Starting at 3 grand we have a bigger selection. From Marshall, Fender, Orange, and Valco, Silvertone, Danelectro, Magnatone and more plus and all the newer designers. Shoot I wish I could buy 5 or 6 new amps from the new guys from the last 15 years or so.

Don't count on it. Judging by the rust on the speakers, the transformers are also rusted. Once rust permeates the iron/steel cores then it compromises the magnetic properties and eddy currents are a lot lower than original build.

Years ago I tried to resurrect a piece of gear that had the same amount of rust as that Bassman. It had been stored in a damp basement.

Moisture from a damp basement ruins the speakers, transformers, jacks, pots, caps - and that pine cabinet will be reduced to balsawood. None of the original components can be salvaged.

It may "power on" but it's a total loss. Unless you want a non-working specimen to put under a glass case.

Just build one, then you can play it and not worry about it blowing up or that you'll have to recone some ancient speaker....

It's just electrons spinning around.....unless you want a nice collector's item, which this one isn't....

my 2 c....etc. etc.

Exactly how I see it.
