• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Here's a photo I took of a friends' 1959? in Niagara Falls in 1979 at the Aladdin Lounge. Wish I knew the serial number. I tried to paste in the URL but it said the file's too large. Anyone know the size limit of a jpeg?

the file size is quite small - when you paste make sure you untick the box - so here it is and a lovely top

Serious rig back there, too. Kind of the reverse Jimmy Page thing going on.

How much was 59 worth back then? I know they were nowhere near what they are now but they still were pretty pricey, right?

In the market place [c.1979] a nice Burst that flamey would be about $5000.

However, a nice 59 might also be as low as $3000, in the knowledgeable market. And the market was heating up. :)

I relative terms, about as much as a decent car. New. That was actually my gauge at the time.

Please tell me those are double whites and not Di Marzios!

Probably Dimarzios, (the polepieces look small in the pic...) while the original "weak" pickups were ripped out with the quickness!:##:spabout

(Though I bet it sounded amazing, and guaranteed the player considered it an upgrade!)

The drum kit is a Ludwig Octoplus!
As far as the pickups go....knowing John I would believe them to be stock PAFs as he always seemed to have the best of everything. I'm going home in a couple weeks, I'll ask him if I see him. John is a great player and was very deserving of such equipment!
