• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

The owner definitely knows how to change his strings. I just offered to because we are always honored when we can have the real deal in house.

really depends on what you're after but I hear ya. Just two very different takes on a 1960 Burst finish. Come to think of it, I like them both.:salude

They are the only crew I would let restore any guitar of mine. I've seen lots of this kinds thing and IMO Kim and crew do it best. Massively anal attention to detail and mojo!!! It don' get any better!

Wonderful work Kim! The guitar looks great. I don't want to add more fuel to the serial # saga. I would just leave it without a number. The Koss burst doesn't have a number and it sounds fantastic! Serial# albeit very important in this world are not why these guitars are so coveted.

There's no doubt in my mind that the new finish looks a million times better, and is way more historically accurate.
The back as well as the top.
Would be interesting to see a similar shot with "Ruby" but bathed in full sunlight, although we all know that photos rarely do these girls justice!

I get what you're saying Joe, but you can bet if we'd left the guitar with no number, many would feel that the restoration was incomplete.
I'd be one of 'em!

Next time you're performing in Brisbane Australia, or at the Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival, you're more than welcome to put "Candy" :wah through her paces! :peace2

I am really happy for you that everything turned out to your satisfaction.

For my taste, nothing different could improve the look of this particular guitar, it's absolutely perfect and I hope she will arrive safely and you play her long and in good health. Keep us posted, will you?

Happy New Year to you as well !

Why not put a 1959 number on it to match the 1959 finish ?

I think adding the serial number completes the restoration. Plus your insurance company probably prefers it

Congrats again :salude

I don't know enough about this stuff to agree or disagree but it does look fantastic and you are getting your dream guitar that you'll be happy with for the rest of your life rather than looking at that other refin w/o number and thinking"Gee, I wish I would have....":3zone :3zone :3zone

looks totally amazing to my eyes!!!! killer job by Kim and crew! The serial number is just a formality and actually helps to document this guitars story, I fell if it would have been left blank it might have been easier for its story to get lost. now we have one more identifying mark for future generations to I.D this baby!

Yes that's exactly right. The Kossoff burst doesn't need a serial number because it already has all the provenance/documentation it'll ever need, whereas this 1960 burst needed an identity.

Thanks, Now your not only a friend of Gibson but your a friend of HM as well. [/IMG]
:dude:
Personally you are friend since the last Arlington Show for me. And regarding Business I am 100% convinced to do a HM with one of my Historics (most likely my Custom Order which is still in production).

Practically the whole point of a serial number is to identify the year a guitar was made. We already know it's a 1960 burst, so the current number is perfect.
