hi all,

I'm new to the forum and have just become the proud owner of a 1960's 60th anniversary Les Paul in Tomato soup burst! I absolutely love everything about it and couldn't be happier...

I have a question that I'm curious about though... How many 60th anniversaries were made? I read that it was a limited run model so i'm just interested to know how many were actually produced.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Ross_Gerry - I’d be interested to know a general ballpark number on the 2019 1959 60th’s, too.

Small correction just in case you weren’t completely aware of the distinction - yours isn’t a 60’s per se - it’s actually a replica of those bursts that were built in the single year of 1960 - which was the last year of the original bursts.

I’ll be interested to hear if anyone knows these numbers. If I had to guess I think 3000 is in the general realm for both years. But that’s a relatively uneducated guess.

I'm not sure if Gibson uses consecutive numbering or not, but mine was finished in mid June 2020 and is 0 1003.

The numbers will be a lot smaller for 2020 as the factory had Covid-related closures.

I wouldn't imagine that the 60th Anniversary thing will add much (if any) value to the resale seeing as almost every Historic Les Paul for the last decade seems to have been a limited run/spec/colour etc.

From what I'm aware any '50th Anniversary' 2010 R0s aren't going for any significant upsell over the 2009 and 2011 R0s. It seems that flame is king for any run-of-the-mill reissue pricing.

Guitarbob123, I think you are right about Gibson not using consecutive numbering. My 1960 60th anniversary was finished in October 2020 and have serial number 1043. I think they made more than 40 examples of this model in 4 months.

This brings to mind on old ha ha funny of when some one says this is a "limited edition " and then the person asks how many is this limited to ? Answer , as many as we can sell .

I own a couple small run Historic's , they are as special as a Yanamo . Although kidding aside now for a fact I really don't think small runs offer any advantage other than they build less !

Disclaimer #1 : Your guitar is rare because your neighbor does not own one !

Disclaimer #2 : I do not have to go to the Moon to realize it's not made of cheese .

I love how you think ! I hope to see the small run of Historic's please . I also agree about the small runs as they are very similar in build to the regular line up of Custom offerings .

Gibson Custom has never released the numbers of each model produced in a year...(ok special/limited runs, yes)
As far as the serial numbers go, I requested/reserved my 60th R0 serial number in 12/19. (0 0213) the guitar was completed at the end of 10/20.
