• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

After years of playing vintage Fenders with small frets I have discovered the Fender factory large.
Wow what a difference,,those big frets make the guitars come alive!

Good timing CD....I have a refin to work through on a clean '63 (bar of course, the current not so nice refin). The level of "relic" on this is a good indicator. Have those little dings been touched up at all? The white undercoat on these sold colour Fenders can be a little bright when a chip happens. Something to consider emulating when I get to that point.
i think i have a red 63 jazzmaster with a silver undercoat, anyone seen that? my pal bought it new,i have the rcpt etc. i have seen desert sand and i heard they also used gold sometimes.

So "L" plate like my late '64 sunburst. For years I thought mine had clay dots..they look deceiving like the dots on yours..they just don't have any pearl swirls.
never checked but i heard the pearl dots were larger than the clay ones

Good eye. There are a couple of small touch ups down by the input jack. The undercoat does present quite a contrast on Fiesta Red.
a couple small touchups dont bother me at all, its part of the guitars journey, i had a red 65 many moons ago it had these style frets, i always thought it was a refret, maybe not? it had real hot pickups too, it was a winner, i was playing a les paul at the time and my bandmates forced me to trade the strat towards a new synth keyboard so we could play the helicopter sounds in flock of seagull songs. i just cant put that to rest.

Nancy Wilson of Heart played a 1965 red Strat during much of the early years of Heart's gigging. It was given to Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen, and is now on permanent display at his Experience Music museum in Seattle.

my first thought...how does the smaller radius react to the LARGER FRETS ? I have always liked that thin wire glassy STRAT tone from yesteryear. It also had a very distinctive feel.

I've always had a soft spot for red strat, eversince my mum played me all those Cliff Richard and the Shadows songs when I was little.
Mine is a late '64 (I think September), fiesta over sunburst, transition logo, but with a super rare, extra wide D-neck. I got it shortly after my mum passed and although I hardly play it, I still cherish it to this day!

I was down in Nashville this weekend and was in the right place at the right time. Check out this really clean 1965 Fiesta Red Stratocaster that I picked up from my friend Elliot at Rumbleseat Guitars. The sound of this beauty is STUNNING!:jim Oh yeah...it's got factory large frets.:dude:
