I’ve looked online and have found contradictory information. Can someone that has experience with a 1978 LP Custom tell me if they used short or long pots please? Also what were the values?

Not trying to be rude, but you know how internet people are sometimes. They repost info that is incorrect because they read it.

Thanks for the help. And have a good weekend all.

If everything is still wired up in the aluminum grounding plate, then you'll need long shaft if you reuse the plate.
I may be wrong about the values, but I believe they were all 4 300K or possibly a mix of two 500/two 300k. Not 100% about the latter.
It's been a long time since I replaced pots in my 79 LPC.

Back then the 300k pots could also have been linear too. My 78 Deluxe and 80 Standard have long pots and the mounting plates. That era I believe had a mix of 300k and 100k pots too 300 for volume and 100k for tone I think. I bought a new 16 Traditional and like the way the pots tapered and did some investigating and they installed 300k linear taper pots instead of the 500k audio. I like them in my trad !

I am sure that you already know this, but when in doubt, you can utilize long shaft pots.
If needed, just add extra washers underneath if they are too long......and presto, they only stick out of the top as far as short shafts would have.

Two nuts and one washer is the right way to do it. If your guitar came with the metal plate/can you have enough nuts.
