1991 All Gold Classic Bargain?

I just came from a local store that has a 1991 Classic all gold Gold Top for $995 with case. Guitar is in what appears to be excellent condition EXCEPT for the dent/chip on the body where it was apparently dropped onto a hard surface. The dent is substantial and chipped the paint and bent the binding. It is located on the rear of the upper body about 8 inches from the strap button.
The neck and rest of guitar seem fine.

The playability is undamaged, but the guitar took a pretty good whack there.

It's marked at $995 with case. I'm thinking it could be had for less than that.

Whataya think? Is is a bargain? A nightmare?

I'm not interested myself as I have a 1990 just like it.

But I thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone was interested.

I think those all gold ones are kinda rare. Check gbase for reference, I saw one there recently and I remember it being more than that.

If you can live w/the blem , that's a great deal. The early Classics were far above the Standards in the LP chain back then.

I've seen a number of '90-'92 Classic Goldtops on eBay, usually in the $1300-$1600 range. Back in the early Spring, I was considering buying one until I found I could get a new 03 Historic Goldtop (w/Brazilian) for just $1750. As far as all-gold being rare, I have never seen a '90-'92 Classic GT that wasn't all gold. I believe that in '93 or '94 they began making the Goldtop Classics with natural backs, exclusively.

Turbozag,

If you are worried, take some good pictures of the damage and email them to Dan. He'll let you know if it can be repaired.

Hey BillyBling,,,

If you are serious, let me know and I'll go by there and take a couple photos of it and send em your way.

The guitar looks like new except for the dent/chip.
I looked very closely all around the neck and neck/body joint and there are NO cracks or issues that I could see at all...

I've got a 1990 just like it, and it's a fabulous guitar!
Excellent quality IMHO.
