• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Ten years later, I dunno if anybody cares, but I put a Lollar staple in the bridge position of a '54 Custom reissue 'cause I love the Gibson/Duncan staples and the Lollar doesn't require any routing 'cause it doesn't have adjustable pole pieces.

But it doesn't sound the same as a regular staple either, to my ear.

It's bright, powerful, and articulate, and I'd use it instead of P90s every time. But when you've grown to love the '54 Custom range of sounds, the Gibson/Duncan staple and the Lollar staple pairing seems to me to provide less distinctive variety. One man's opinion.
I think it's a win win as you don't have to do any routing . So why not change it up and give it a try out ?
