It is not a 03, but close; this 02 r8 is a just under 9lbs one of the best sounding and easiest playing guitars I have had the pleasure of having.

Some are good, some are bad. It is wood that rule goes for every year.

In 2003, the Reissue R8, (Custom Shop) guitars were made in three colors,
Washed Cherry
Faded Tobacco
Iced Tea

If the Serial Number is within the parameters below, it has a Brazilian fretboard...

1958 Reissue, ranging from 83001-83256
-83001-83008 are prototypes, and 2 of these are LP Juniors
-within this range 29 are LP Juniors
-1 is a korina explorer
-83046, 83047, and 83087 do not exist

Music Machine special ordered guitars in the Brazilian number range that were
non-standard colors, and they will have a blacked out (Stinger) headstock, and a
second Serial Number.

Here is a R8 Brazilian I used to own. (Faded Tobacco)

Unknown-1.jpegThe late 1990s and early 2000 R7s and R8’s Historic have really nice big necks.
I agree the necks are great the time span you refer really had some fantastic Historic guitars - For guitars having according to some : incorrect- Glue - Truss rod - Top carve !
