• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

Gentlemen and Ladies
I just purchased this guitar and I assumed that it is non weight relieved.
A friend and so called expert just told me that in fact it is weight relieved.
Does anyone here know for sure.
thanks

First of all, the only "weight relieved" R's would be chambered models, with a "CR8" ( or CR7, CR9 etc) serial number. There are no regular Historic/Reissue/R models that are weight relieved.
I would surely doubt that Wildwood would sell an R8 that's weight relieved and not disclose it.
What is the serial number of your guitar?
and FYI, my 2014 R8 M2M was 7 lbs 14 oz. ....non weight relieved.

I don't think it would be an issue of Wildwood not disclosing. Gibson probably would never make a weight relieved R8 with an R8 serial number, period. That's what Custom Shop Standards with a CS serials are for.

I have a 2010 R9 Les Paul that weighs 7lbs 11oz. It's not weight relieved. If I recall correctly there is some discussion about lightweight Fiji mahogany on a different thread.

I have two Wildwood featherweights an R4 (7.86lb) and R7 (7.96lb). They are most excellent sounding guitars and I love the light weight. They were made in 2014 as well. I’m not sure but I think these were offered mostly in 2013 and 2014 so your guitar would check out year wise.

Both my guitars have R serial #’s. They are made from selected lightweight mahogany pieces without any weight relief. I haven’t Xrayed them, but I have no reason to mistrust Wildwood.

These seem to be pretty hard to come by so you scored imho.
