Hey all, Found a 2015 Les paul close out at SA. NEW..BLACK BEAUTY... taged as a Traditional classic.?? I was confused because the guitar has none of the features the 2015 trads have..no trad on truss cover,no zero brass nut, no g force tuners, grovets instead,no halogram, covered pups,Abr bridge, four knobs tone/volume and a Black finish with almost aged looking binding..Plays great, very resonant un pluged, sweet sounding, not as harsh as the gold top 2017 classic I original went for..plus 2015 is 300 cheaper a new close out I really love the 2015 playability and look..My Question is Why is this guitars features so different then the usual 2015 Trads..I cant find any info on this stripped down model ..any info appreciated..thank you..

There was a special run called the "sprint run" of trads that did not have the typical 2015 features, and i believe they're was a few dealer requested runs mid 2015 debacle that also had the classic Trad features, this is from my poor memory though, someone else here might have more info on this then i do.:salude

Got a pic or a link?

Is it a faded finish on the back or glossy?

Is it a Traditional or a Classic? I think Classic is the model name and "Traditional" is in the sense of how they used to make them. A good deal to me on that guitar is $1,500.

On a side note, whoever in Gibson decided to name a model Traditional and then use the word traditional on basically every other model is a complete moron.

Agreed Tim its very confusing..but most importantly it plays great.I was looking at the Gold top classic but this black beauty 300 cheaper...has a more of a standard feel then Trad....sounds better then the class gold top..the fret board on the gold top is turning me off too..very light..

Iam digging it.Very resonant unplugged ,plays great love the neck. Not as slim as my 2008 60s classic, but in the middle of my 2014 trad and 2016 trad..2014 having the fullest neck of the three..but still no where near a full as my 2006 VOS 58 .BUT THE 2015 TRAD CLASSIC ABR went from an inigma to a great addition..The 57 classics sound great in it and its lighter then the above mentioned guitars Due to weight relief...brown lipton case..out the door 1650..Iam Good !!

Yes, the Traditional Classic was a dealer exclusive run in 2015 that was offered in Iced Tea and Ebony. Not sure what all the dealers were who got it... but I know Sam Ash was one of them (I almost bought an Iced Tea version back in 2015).

Anyway, it is a Classic built in the "traditional" way a typical Classic was built a decade or two ago. It has a 60s neck, 57 Classic pickups (in both positions, ie, not a 57+ in the bridge as is quite common)... a regular/correct width nut & neck (ie, not wide 2015 neck)... a normal TekToid nut (not the brass zero nut)... 4 control knobs (not 3 like Classics from 2014)... and (thankfully) the normal "Les Paul Model" headstock logo (instead of the "Leo Baul 100" found on regular production 2015 models). :)

The only thing it really shares with regular production 2015 models is the GForce etuner. Though I've seen many of these retrofitted with manual tuners by dealers after the fact to get them sold after all the fallout from the 2015 year debacle.

Anyway, they are cool guitars... always kinda regretted not getting that Iced Tea I tried. But, considering I ended up getting a 2016 Traditional in Iced Tea a year later... I guess I made up for it: :)
