Anybody tried both-- can someone just give me the rundown on the differences?

I have done a search on here already and couldn't find anything recent

if there is already a good thread on this then I'd appreciate someone just posting the link here

thanks

From what I’ve read in the past, there are no differences.

The biggest physical difference is going to be the True Historic badge that 2015 had, which is no longer on Custom Shop LPs. Also, there were 2 tiers of guitars back then, Standard Historic and True Historic…..both had long neck tenons, but only TH had hide glue tops, boards, and veneers. NOW, instead of those 2 differentiations, you have Standard Historic which means long tenons and hide glue tops, boards, neck joints, and veneers as well as historically correct plastics. So in a nutshell....2017 Standard Historic = 2015 TH. Hope this helps! I love and adore Custom Shop and know the team well! They are killer!--David A

I believe the OP is asking specifically about difference in True Historics from 2015 vs True Historics from 2017. Yes, 2017 also had True Historics (in fact, y'all sold me one :p).

I don't think there's any difference between 2015 TH and 2017 TH (from what I've read, since I've never owned a 2015 TH). As for TH vs non-TH 2017s, what most people say on forums is that non-THs are missing the wet sanding and --as the CME folks pointed out- the TH "badge". In some cases, the case is different as well (no pun intended). Meaning that THs had the case that is being used for 2018 (less padding, only 1 "locking" latch, lacquered, etc).

I thought ONLY 2015's had the hand wet sanded finish. Tops are now double carved but that is all machine work.

I think all custom shops in 2015 and on used hide glue on tops , (2014 started the fret board , 2013 did just the neck joint )
