• Guys, we've spent considerable money converting the Les Paul Forum to this new XenForo platform, and we have ongoing monthly operating expenses. THE "DONATIONS" TAB IS NOW WORKING, AND WE WOULD APPRECIATE ANY DONATIONS YOU CAN MAKE TO KEEP THE LES PAUL FORUM GOING! Thank you!

I want to assemble a wiring harness for a 1990’s Guild Bluesbird that is identical (in operation) to my 2016 Classic.
The volume and tone controls are useable from 1-10 with gradual taper throughout the entire range.

I’m not sure how to upload a picture

I think it’s modern wiring but would like to be certain.

The potentiometer codes are:
Volume: 70034 Gibson branded 300k Linear
Tone: 71079 Gibson branded 500k Audio
Thanks in advance!

Les Pauls are basically wired one of 2 ways assuming none of your pots have the push/pull option. One is the "modern" wiring and
the other is "50's" wiring. The "50's" wiring provides no loss of treble if you roll your volume down. Both wiring diagrams and many
others are free to print out on the Seymour Duncan website. That they provide all of this info for free has helped me greatly when
upgrading friends and family members guitars and basses. Hope you find all you need to know on their site. Cheers.

I’m not able to post a picture of my wiring here, but it’s stock, hand wired with the (apparently) unusual 300k linear taper volume pots.
No push pulls no PCB.
It took me quite a while to find out what pots are in my guitar.
I spoke with someone in Gibson customer service and he said my description was consistent with linear taper volume pots.
Who knew?

My Bluesbird currently has 50’s wiring. It’s just not working for me.
Now I know why.

Thanks for your reply.
I’ve been on the Seymour Duncan forum and it is a great resource.

There is nothing unusual about 300K linear volume pots, they are standard fitment on most Les Pauls. If your wiring is stock it would be a PCB with modern style wiring. It is simple to check which style of wiring you have, if the capacitor connects to the outer lug of the volume pots it is modern. If it connects to the centre lug it is vintage style.
