Hi,
I'm lucky to have one of these fine guitars, but in find that the pickups is a little out of my territory, so i have thought about a set of SD Whole Lottas. They should have a little more output to push my old (reissue Marshalls).
Is that a good idea?

Do it!...The 57 classics on my 2017 Trad Pro sounded awful...put some Sd Pearly Gates on it...now it sounds great !

Conversely, the 57 Classics in my Custom sound incredible. Proving once again, it’s all in the ear of the beholder.

I have a 2016 Trad and the 57's were a bit harsh in it, so I swapped in a set of the Mojotone 59 clones and it was an improvement. The 57's I put in my 1980 Standard and they are great in it, I removed some Planet Tone Special 59's they were a bit nasally and the 57's were an improvement in the old 80 Standard. Just goes to show that the wood and age have a lot to do with the tone of guitars. No pickup will sound the same in different guitars for a handful of reasons, so hang on the what you removed and you may at some point like them in that guitar or another.. As far as pickups I have tried are Vineham Sweet 59's (Awesome),Mojotone 59 clones (Great), Dominger Rising Sun and Whiskesippi (great for a bright guitar). Good luck with the tone quest !
